"Victory March"

The deadline for submitting my final three for the longlist for the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition is looming and I still haven't decided. It's been harder than ever this year because the standard of entries has been so high.

My decision is not being made any easier by entrants such as Derby duo Scribble Victory who enchanted me with their exquisite harmonies. They weave such quiet intricate folk patterns they could be the inverse Royal Blood. Where Royal Blood bludgeon you into submission Scribble Victory gently whisper in your ear to entice you into their world. They take folk music to places it's never been before by introducing elements more familiar to lovers of American emo into an acoustic setting and it works magnificently. - The Devil Has The Best Tuna

"Single of the Week - Scribble Victory - I've Made Do Without"

Hello and welcome to this weeks ‘Single of the Week’ brought to you by Alpha Beata music blog. This week I have another old favourite making their long awaited appearance back on the blog. I originally did I review of this duo back in summer last year and these guys have been constantly impressing me with some of their material and now they’re back with a new single called “I’ve Made Do Without”. The duo, Scribble Victory.

Their sound is very unique to many artists, with their minimalistic tone throughout many of their songs which involves an acoustic guitar, drums and both vocal harmonies. Even the drums have been taken apart to just the hi-hat, snare and kick drum, their sound completes the whole thing that the duo have become. It’s not about making a massive sound, its just about great songwriting and structuring the song to make it appealing to the listener with what they’ve got and they do it spectacularly.

The song really captured what Scribble Victory are all about, classic and breathtaking harmonies that really give the song a nice uplift when needed. Makes you want to sit back and really appreciate the sound they have created for this song. I like how they’ve not done anything dramatically with the dynamics either, some songs don’t need change and this is one of those songs. There might be the odd shift with the drum patterns or dropping out the harmonies at times, but that is only to be brought in again to add more to their sound.

The chorus is the main focal point on this track where you can really tell that this song means a lot to the duo and they’re having a great time recording this song. The video that goes along with this song is a treat too, it gives you an insight for how little this band needs to create this amazing sound. As well as a nice little story inbetween shots of the band, this is the whole package for this weeks ‘Single of the Week’.

Thanks for reading and until next time

"Exclusive Premiere - Scribble Victory - Stalemate"

The Spin: “Stalemate” comes off of the bands debut EP Confidence which was released on 9 September. Scribble Victory is a two-piece acoustic band hailing from the UK. They have been compared to bands like American Football, Bright Eyes, Bon Iver and Frank Turner. They have toured alongside the likes of Johnny Foreigner, Tall Ships, Laura Stevenson and Ducking Punches.

The song itself sounds like Frank Turner teamed up with Johnny Foreigner to write a song but then invited Neck Deep to join them and help write the song. It is combination of folksy guitars, upbeat noise pop styled drum work and what can be described as typically British angsty pop punk vocals. Just think Neck Deep on “Part of Me” but with less shouting and more singing. The video treats you to a spectacular day out with the band which includes busking in the park, pulling strange faces, dancing and hiding in bushes.

Without any further ado, you can view the video below and be sure to check out their Facebook and Twitter accounts to keep in touch with the band. - Mind Equals Blown
