Bio

Dayshawn Owens, a.k.a. “Scrooge” has always lived the street life and has so much to say to the world about what it is like to walk in his boots. He started rapping at the age of 9 years old. With his one year older brother, William a.k.a. “Nettles” they became deeply committed to their music after each graduated from high school. They started off as “Ghostland Dynasty” inciting an entire town to rename itself Ghostand” (Gordon Heights). Their first shows came in the same year at places such as; Farmingdale College, Saint Johns College, Suffolk College, and The Honey Suckle Club in Long Island, NY. They released their first album Unknown” (produced by Mark Niles, Abnormal, and Keith Shocklee) around the same time underground artist R.A. the Rugged Man was recording his demos. Their dedication never stopped. In 1998 they performed at Blue Angel Night Club in Manhattan, NY, Mad Jacks in Miami, FL in 1999, Rose Castle in Brooklyn, NY (1999), then won first place in Studio Y Me Battle 2000-2001 as a solo act. From then on, Scrooge Owens began growing as a solo artist.
In October 2003, Scrooge’s street lifestyle caught up with him and he was arrested for conspiracy and manslaughter and they presented him with the death penalty. In his cell, he became more focused than ever to write songs of his life, street codes and his vision. As he realized his gift and started utilizing his talent, Scrooge vowed to spread the word about his vision all the way to the grave. He has written many songs while incarcerated. When he got out of the federal penitentiary in just under 7 1/2 years, it was July 2011. Scrooge restarted his solo career and turned a bunch of writing on paper into actual recorded songs. He has been on the move since performing in various states including Alabama, Georgia, Pennsylvania and of course his home, New York! Scrooge has performed at the Source Magazine Take Over Showcase at the Pyramid, the Power 105.1 Ultimate Hip Hop Showcase, Club 9A (NYC), and Blackthorn 51 Winter Warm-up where he was the opening act for Maino. In addition, to performing as a part of other industry events, Scrooge created the Who Got Hits Concert Series that toured across the U. S. He also held mixtape releases for his History in the Making and King of New York Mixtapes. Scrooge Owens reconnected with family and influential friends. He is... SCROOGE OWENS.
