"Scufflegrit - Lyin', Stealin', and Litterin'"

“Scufflegrit is a duo consisting of two good old boys from North Alabama, Jared Chaffin and Matt Aston. Their new release, Lyin’, Stealin’, and Litterin’ also features Kacie Chaffin on vocal harmony and Mike Frye on drums. Jared Chaffin plays rhythm guitar and sings while Matt Aston plays lead guitar, bass, and harmonica as well as providing vocals. One of my favorite cuts on the CD is Fly. The boys blend some nice guitar work with smooth country style vocals for a pleasant listen. Guin is also a very good song about a small town. Aston’s bluesy guitar lead complements a smoky vocal. Southern Boys is a moonshine story about stealing from daddy’s still. Lyin’, Stealin’, and Litterin’ is front porch music, best enjoyed with a very cold beer on one of those very hot days that are commonplace in Alabama. The boys don’t break a lot of new ground with Lyin’, Stealin’, and Litterin’ but their music is an authentic slice of life that is unique to the Southern United States. That’s music that speaks to my roots and to my heart.”

""They take me to the country, they take me to the South.""

“Scufflegrit, formerly the Midnight Tokers from Jacksonville, Alabama have recently recorded their first album in Sheffield, AL. They aren’t currently playing live, as one[Matthew Aston] is stationed in the Army in New York and the rest of the band is in Alabama. After listening to the first song the hair on my arms was standing up as I appreciated the deeply rooted soul and talent of this band. The song “Southern Boys” has great harmonies and reminds me of songs from the feature film ”O’ Brother Where Art Thou”. The quality of the recordings is the best of the best which is a result of them recording at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. Matthew Aston’s soothing and powerful vocals are a rare gift and he really delivers as does the rest of the band. They take me to the country, they take me to the South. Support these wonderfully talented musicians. I can’t wait to hear more! Stay tuned at http://www.myspace.com/scufflegrit." - Alabama Jam
