"Preview: SXSW Send Off Featuring Lemolo, OCnotes, Spac3man, SEACATS @ Neumos 3/5"

The pop-punk band SEACATS are perfectly tailored for Austin’s warm air. There’s something about the band of twentysomething guys that just makes you want to have a good time, throw your responsibilities to the wayside, and breathe in the moment. The feeling of youth the band washes over a crowd is pretty addictive, exemplified on songs like “Summer Fun Song” and “Whoa Whoa Whoa Hey Hey Hey.” We hope that SXSW is ready to rock along with SEACATS, and that you are too on Tuesday at Neumos. - Seattle Show Gal

"Seacats Release New Video, Head to SXSW"

Seacats from Kelso, WA are one of my very favorite Sound Off! alumni—their album Metal Music, is in regular rotation on my summer playlist (you can download it for the bargain price of name your price here) and they're definitely recommended if you like early Weezer, the Rentals, and BOAT.

The band will be releasing a new full-length this summer on Fin Records and today they've debuted a new video for the first single, "Wrecked." The video was directed by Derrick Acosta and Dusty Peterman and now I can't get this song out of my head.

You should let it infect your brain, too:

Seacats are playing the SXSW Send Off Show at Neumos tomorrow, March 5, with Lemolo, OCNotes, and Spac3man. Tickets are available here. They're opening the show, so be sure to get there early to catch Seacats! You think this video is charming? They're even more fun live. - The Stranger (Seattle)

"Seacats’ Weezertastic Tunes Rocked Heartland Last Night"

When I showed up to Seacats’ show at Heartland last night, singer/drummer Josh Davis and keyboardist Justin Salisbury were both wearing the same Weezer Red Album tour t-shirts.

“If there is one thing I hope to accomplish with Seacats, it’s establishing myself as Seattle’s resident Weezer scholar,” says Josh Davis.

He’s only half kidding.

Brothers Mike and Josh Davis have been churning out Weezer-tastic power pop in their Kelso based band Seacats since 2009. Joined by their friends Justin Salisbury, Jordan Cole, and Mike Ferrario, the gang has been all about Weezer before Seacats even existed.

“Before our band, we had a web show that shall remain nameless,” Josh says. “Me and my brother won a radio contest from a Portland station 94.7 where we got to go back stage and interview Weezer, which really only meant interviewing Brian, Pat, and Carl. They just took us on a tour of the entire, giant, Weezer corporation that is playing as a stadium band.”

The brothers have followed Weezer everywhere, including seeing one of Weezer’s side projects play at The Vera Project.

“They pulled up to The Vera in a limo,” says Josh.

Seacats have managed to craft one of this year’s catchiest singles, “Wrecked,” which will appear on their upcoming full-length album, due out on Fin Records in October. The song’s lurching bass-line is hooky as hell, and matched with its epic lucha libre music video, “Wrecked” will stick itself firmly in your brain.

Live at Heartland, Seacats ended their sweaty set with an insane altered version of the single. With absolutely no regard for tempo, Seacats began the song as a doom metal number, shifted to a high punky speed for the bridge, and ended the song at 200 mph going so fast that Josh could barely sing the hook in time. The experience was pleasantly disorienting.

“That’s the first time we’ve done that,” Mike says. “We practiced it once. We just wanted to mess with everyone.”

The band is refreshingly funny in a town full of somber folkies. At the Yellingham festival in Bellingham this year, a week after My Chemical Romance had officially broken up, the band led the crowd in a shout-along to the emo outfit’s classic single “I’m Not Okay.”

Their most recent 7” on Fin Records for the single “Firewood” inexplicably has a hamburger on it.

The great thing about Seacats is that behind the comedy lies some of Seattle catchiest tunes. Check them out at: seacats.bandcamp.com. - Seattle Weekly

"PREMIERE: Seacats Skateboard for Burgers in New Music Video ‘Minus World’"

“It’s all about the simple times, about doing what makes you happy,” Mike Davis sings in “Minus World” the new single from Seacats upcoming self titled LP.

Unfortunately, in the hilarious music video for the song (making it’s worldwide international debut here), Kelso, WA’s leading Weezer Scholars are very unhappy after a bum performance at a community center that sounds something akin to an acid jazz band getting in a carwreck. To remedy the solution, Davis decides to enter in a skateboarding contest that could win him “Free Burgers 4 Life,” and eventually lands him in outer space.

Imagine the original Disney Channel movie “Brink” meets “Hot Rod,” but with an extra tablespoon of charm. A+ to Seacats for the special effects in the video’s climax, which rivals Avatar’s breathtaking visual fireworks with its own unique brand green screen magic.

“We made the ‘Minus World’ video ourselves in our hometown of Kelso, WA this July. It is sort of a hometown tribute to the all-ages venue Minus World we used to have in Kelso,” drummer/singer Josh Davis writes. “Minus World was an awesome restaurant/arcade/venue that existed in our town and created a thriving all-ages local music scene but then sadly shut down last year.”

While the song acts as a sort of eulogy, in effect it’s an uber-catchy pop number perfect for soundtracking the final lap of summer, with a lovely little coda at the end to help you get extra sentimental. Produced by Steve Fisk of Nirvana and Soundgarden fame, the full length is due out October 15 on Fin Records. Featuring spiffy pink vinyl, the record has my vote for album cover of the year. Check out the educational 11 minute infomercial for the album here, and maybe cruise on over to Seacats’ previous visual masterpiece for the record’s other single, “Wrecked,” which features 90s quality VHS footage of Mexican wrestling and an unreasonably hooky bass riff. - Seattle Weekly

"SEACATS"

Washington's SEACATS are a throwback to vintage party music. Their sound is cool and upbeat. Its garage rock meets the pool party. Album opener, Don't Get What You Want, will have you screaming along with the whimsical melodies before it hits the second chorus.

On, We Don't Sleep, they put their best foot forward. Falsetto vocals glide nicely with an easily strummed electric guitar. Its a quick, in your face, tune that excels. Yield is a three minute poppy/grunge tune, I could imagine a less dark Cobain writing.

All in all, the SEACATS please. Watch for upcoming shows in your area! - Awaken Music Blog

"Notes From A Simpler Time..."

Before being "geeked-up" became a slang term in the bay area "Hyphy" music scene, describing various things from a type of fashion to excessive amphetamine use, it described a certain nerdy-feel good swagger that bands like Weezer brought to the table, and in my opinion encompassed a lot of 90's Alt. Rock. Seacats are indeed "geeked-up". Up tempo guitar chords, and bratty vocals just make me want to curl up with a bowl of POP's and watch Nickelodeon cartoons when they were at their best (Rugrats,Rocko's modern life, AHHHH! REAL MONSTERS...anyone?). "K'nittle blues" utilizes bending synths, and sock hop drum beats in combination with distortion crushed vocal segments to showcase real creative talent. The punky whine vocals, and melodic xylo tapping in "Don't get what you want" remind us that stepping outside of the "real world", and in to our own little one can be the best inspiration for musical genius, and in their own respect, Seacats might just have that.

SEACATS are a pop-rock band from Kelso, WA. Self-described “funny guyz,” the band was formed out of the remains of a comedy-webshow in 2009 by brothers Mike and Josh Davis. The laughs haven’t stopped since! SEACATS first made a name for itself in the Pacific Northwest music scene when they participated in the EMP Soundoff! 2010 competition. They were accepted because of their “charming, funny” personalities, not based on the merit of their music. Soon after this, the band’s hilarity earned them a spot at 2010’s Bumbershoot Arts festival. SEACATS then slugged it out in the underground for awhile, winning over audience members one-by-one with pratfalls and slapstick comedy. After two “chuckle-worthy” EPs, it came the time to release their first full- length album. 2011 saw the release of SEACATS’ first full-length. Always the ones to make a joke, SEACATS named their first full-length album “Metal Music,” even though the band is not metal, and the album’s artwork was cowboy-themed. I mean, how random is that?!

Somewhere along the way, SEACATS caught the eye (or should I say funnybone?) of burgeoning Seattle indie label Fin Records, where they inked an album deal. Since then, it has been “Jokes Galore” with SEACATS even receiving Seattle Weekly’s highly sought-after “Best Cat Band” award, solidifying the band’s position as “A cute joke band, with no real substance” Recently, the band has made even more jokes, including their “really funny” Mexican-wrestling themed music video for “Wrecked,” followed by their highbrow satire of masculinity, the music video for “Firewood.” “Firewood” was released as a 7” single entitled The 7” Burger on 4/20 (The jokes never stop with these guys!). Since Metal Music, fan anticipation had been building for another SEACATS full- length. Well, get ready to giggle! Because finally the guys have put together the perfect “laughing gas formula” that is guaranteed to make you howl, grin, and chortle until your gut busts! SEACATS self-titled 2nd full-length is coming out October 15th!

And if you thought they were funny on record, wait ‘til you see em live! Known to be “The funniest live band EVER” the guys have loaded their live show to the brim with funny gags. The guys have done all types of gags imaginable in their live shows: Crowd work, high-flying stunts, food fights, audience misdirection, berating of the audience, taking articles of clothing off, IRONIC/FUNNY COVERS (can you say Black Eyed Peas, System of a Down, Smash Mouth, My Chemical Romance, Christina Aguilera, Kid Rock, and of course fan-favorite Bohemian Rhapsody!), and EVEN jumping into the pacific ocean (How’d they pull that one off?! HAHAHA). I mean look at these guys! They’ll do anything for a laugh! You know what they always say, “you never know what’ll happen at a SEACATS live show.”

So there you have it, the gangs all here, and I’m so happy we’re all here together. So snuggle up, settle down, take a load off, and take a listen to SEACATS; and then get ready to hop onboard the laugh train baby, because here it comes! CHOO-CHOO!
