"EP 1 & 2 Review"

Seadog have got a dynamic acoustic pop sound with a DNA that streches back to the late sixties. Harmony vocals and intricate guitars a sound that has a root in CSNY, but one that also updates it and gives it a modern edge. This becomes more apparent on EP2 which shows a band growing in confidence. Taking more risks with both the lyric and the delivery, an approach that serves them well. It gives them a growing sense of identity, a distinct musical personality - FATEA Magazine Dec 2009

"Seadog 2009 Review"

"Seadog’s songs come in showers; harmonies ride each sound-droplet with skill, proficiency, and tenderness – like the finest of rain-riding adventurers. Hopeless Souls is chilling in the same musical park as the Mamas and the Papas’ California Dreaming’; End of the Line is an adventure on the high seas, Seadog riding the crests of influences like Neil Young and Nick Drake." - One80news March 2009

"Seadog – Around The Corner"

I’m sure we could go much further back for inspiration but today I feel like stopping at Cosmic Rough Riders. For that is what I’m hearing in the wonderfully understated ‘Around The Corner’ from Brighton’s Seadog. This sort of stuff is really our bread and butter, slightly lo-fi pop with bright melodies managing to look beyond their dishevelled surroundings. Mark Nathan Benton is the creative force behind the band and has already knocked out 2 EP’s, both of which he fashioned by hand and are being sold as physical objects known as CD’s (imagine that kids, is he mad?). Must say I am with Benton though in his last century pursuit because it is an undisputed pleasure unwrapping something and placing it in a player when the results are as gorgeous as ‘Around The Corner’. "Seadog EP Review"

Revolving around Brighton-based musician Mark Benton, Seadog make the kind of music you hear soundtracking vintage festival footage of bearded blokes dancing round campfires waving flowers and loony ladies gooning about with their painted boobs hanging out. It’s steeped in an era where Nick Drake and Neil Young records roamed the land, with beautiful and ethereal vocal harmonies that would have Elliot Smith kicking himself if he hadn’t already stabbed himself. Nice. (NC) - The Source magazine

"Barbershop Trio"

Brighton band Seadog kicked off their first national tour on Saturday with a gig in a barber shop. The Gloucester Road Barber has Elliot Smith inspired decor and apparently once had a man living upstairs named Elliot Smith (not that one).

It was the perfect venue for Seadog to mark the start of their first tour of the U.K. as the band are much influenced by Elliot Smith, having hosted a tribute night in the same venue in 2010. The new line up includes accordion which gives them a Decemberists-esque edge to their established harmony-laden acoustic jaunty sound.

Seadog will be supporting Kenneth Ishak on tour, a delightful surprise of pop sensibilities with indie undertones from Norway, described as “where Big Star and Real Estate collide.”

You can catch Seadog and Kenneth Ishak at:

3rd Dec – Brighton/Gloucester Road Barbershop
4th Dec – Northampton/The labour club
5th Dec – London/12 Bar Club

8th Dec – Glasgow/13th Note
Also supporting were Brighton band G-Minor, launching their first EP ‘Under No Illusion’. The band have come a long way in the last few months, combining melodic harmonies and engaging lyricism – definitely a band to watch.

Bio

Seadog is the project of Brighton-based musician and song writer Mark Nathan Benton. Seadog began with Benton at the nucleus of an ever-changing cast of musical friends where each performer would bring their own piece of imagination to the music.

Now established as a band with a regular cast, Seadog combine their musical ideas, fusing delicate acoustic lullabies with anthemic electric and acoustic textures.

Seadog have a strong presence amongst the Brighton music scene and have supported a number of acts over the years; including Erland and The Carnival, Blue Roses, Pink Mountain Tops and David Bazan (Pedro The Lion). They recently toured in the UK with Norwegian Songsmith Kenneth Ishak (from Beezwax) by playing as his backing band in addition to opening the bill each night.

Seadog have released two EPs on Nottingham's Folkwit Label and have a debut album to due for release later this year.
