"Waiting for tomorrow review"

smouldering with a classy slickness that in the wrong hands translates to the smooth soullessness of David Gray and the like, Seamus McLoughlin is an artist side-stepping that particular pothole and emerging more in a league with people like Damien Rice and Liam Frost. As the warm guitar tones and acoustic brushes that permeate proceedings on album opener THIS IS LOVE suggest, this is a record that oozes quality songwriting and definite musical maturity. Aside from his obvious talents as a songwriter, Seamus McLoughlin also possesses a voice that grabs you from the start, subtly drawing you in with warmth and compassion, soothing in the quieter moments and hitting an impassioned high on the emotive chorus lines.
DO I is an indie rock sounding tune that gives the likes of Snow Patrol a run for their money in the lighters in the air, stadium rock stakes whilst the superior heartbroken lament of SHE SAID finds McLoughlin launching from quiet piano and vocal beginnings to the bruised peaks of the songs gorgeous and swooning choruses. The gentle acoustic mood of SHOW ME YOUR SMILE, plays to that Damien Rice comparison again, a classy and mature sounding song that tugs at the heartstrings and plants itself firmly in your head from the first chord strum. UNSWEPT ROOM exhibits a more classic rock feel, Seamus McLoughlin recalling Eddie Vedder at his most passionate crooning best at times here; the songs poetic lyrical imagery and shifting song dynamics lending a real colour and texture to proceedings.
Whilst songs like CHANGES and MERCURY FALLS don't exactly do or say anything particularly new, they do continue to present Seamus McLoughlin as a talented and evocative singer/songwriter, his presence and charisma shining through with every chord struck and note sung. The pretty acoustic clatter of PULLING AT THE SEAMS continues in this vein whilst the piano led pop dynamics of SHUDDER shows off a more ambitious side to McLoughlin, the sound of someone destined for the kind of mainstream radio acceptance that leads to stardom. The closing acoustic ballad of DIFFERENCE is a more stark and subdued affair, all emotive vocals and gentle guitar strums.
WAITING FOR TOMORROW is an album of definite promise and highs, representing the emergence of a singer/songwriter with a genuine talent and bright future. With the kind of songs that'll appeal to the Snow Patrol and Keane crowds, Seamus McLoughlin is surely an artist on the verge of very big things. - UK music Search
