Sean Cos Mason aka Sean M

grew up, in a single parent home, in Montclair, NJ. His dad was not in his life to teach him the moral value how to be a man, but he was lucky to have positive family men role models to show him. Sean Cos Mason’s mother was a strong positive role model and an educated woman who taught her son the value of education. She also taught her son visual art and different genera of music. In High School, he drew on his shoes and made mix-tapes. Sean has so much love for music that he started to sing at the tender age of 2.

"INTERVIEW WITH TALENTED MUSICIAN SEAN COS MASON"

What inspired you to do what you do?

I was inspired to be a musician and a designer since I was two years old. My mother brought me my first toy guitar with an attached microphone. I recall when I used to walk around the house, singing and to play my guitar to Michael Jackson music at the age of two. At the age of four, my mother brought me a walkman for Christmas, and I used to play my cassette with the song Disco Inferno by the Trammps. I would go around the house and outside rocking to burn baby burn.

I was introduced to different genres of music, from classical, jazz, disco, club, opera and more, through my mother’s “Music Appreciated” college course. As I got older, I wanted to learn more about the music, so I signed up for a choral class at Mount side Middle school in Montclair. In my choral music class, we went to different schools to put on concerts. Right then and there, I knew my love for music had grown with a strong passion for learning more.

I also became fascinated by trying to understand how musicians like me perceive and understand things like rhythm, pitch, tone, and harmony. Additionally, learning music and its language helped me to develop an appreciation for music.

I give thanks to my mother for introducing me to a wide range of music at an early age. As a result of my early learning and love for various styles of music, I became open-minded and developed a unique style of writing inspiration.

I love listening to the lyricist; it helps get me through good and bad times.

Listening to different genres of music helps me to build up my vocabulary and express my inner thoughts. At times it’s hard for me to verbalize my emotions, but through music, they flow out like a stream of water. Thus, I knew I was destined to create and write music.

The rich language of music inspired me and motivated me to become a hip-hop/rap artist. It helps me to express my feelings and tell my story in a poetically lyrical way. Also, I wanted to be on stage wearing my clothing brand with the microphone in front of me.

I recall when I was younger my mother always dressed me in fashionable clothes. My outfits still had matching hats, jacket, and shoes and I received many compliments about them. As the years passed, I became so fascinated with clothes and footwear that I wanted to start my clothing line that stood out. When I started to buy my clothes, I became tuned in with my appearance and sense of style. I buy clothes that convey who I am as a hip-hop artist. Being a hip-hop artist, I know that fashion and music go hand-in-hand, so I wanted to create a back-story for the way I dress and my music.

I know the music and fashion industries have a place for me and I have a place for them. With my strong inspiration in music, I started to brand myself through my stage name and Noneillah tagline to make me more marketable and relatable in the industries.

I’ve been grinding toward my goals and living my dream ever since. I started to surround myself with like-minded individuals to work towards building a company with my Sean Cos Mason-Noneillah Brand. I’m fostering an atmosphere that allows artists and designers to be innovative.

How did you start in this industry?

I started purely through improvisational freestyle rapping, going to rap battles, making an appearance at internet radio stations and performing at local venues at an early age with my Ice Grill group. Through that exposure, I fell in love with creating beats, songwriting and engineering music. I knew right then my passion for the industry was born. As for getting into the fashion industry, I became intrigued with the clothes my mother used to dress me in when I was young. After that, my love for the world of fashion started to grow. My mother convinced me to start my line so I could pass items out to my fans after every concert to get my brand out. She purchased a five-piece t-shirt pressure to start my tee shirt line so I could put my Noneillah logo on shirts, hats and other products.

Once again, I thank my mother for introducing me to the beauty of clothes, as she did with music. My mother is my world, and the biggest supporter and fan of my music and success. She is my role model who always has my back, no matter what.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years, I’d like to be seen as someone with deep expertise in the music industry who received the title of a hip-hop king, sitting on the throne and holding my place in the game. I also want to have my music hit the Billboard top ten charts. Five years from now I would like to write and produce music for the hottest person in the game, along with obtaining a few ASCAP awards and owning multiple Noneillah companies that I can franchise. I’m also really excited to take on more new inspiring artists and responsibilities in the next few years, as well as potentially taking the lead on some projects. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some fantastic people in the music industry. I also want to do some music collaboration with the most prominent artists in the game and have my music become known internationally. As a musician and an entrepreneur, I want to develop my skill set. At the end of the next five years, I want to collaborate with top name designers and stores to get my Noneillah collection known on the international level. I also want to get my Master of Business Management and Finance Degree. To achieve this, I’ve decided to go back to college online or on campus in my free time. My new skills will help me to say that I’m the best at my job being a successful owner/ entrepreneur of a top 100 business worldwide. - Faroolive

"SEAN MASON – “MY WORLD” AND “GET IT, GOOD NIGHT” FT. KYZER"

Sean Cos Mason aka Sean M is an underground hip-hop artist and poet from Montclair, NJ. Primarily born and raised in a single mother middle class artistic community, Sean Cos Mason grew up with music as his focal point of comfort, with writing as his therapy. Cos started writing poetry as a child, but later became intrigued by cipher sessions with his group Ice Grill; he would do rap battling in school cafeterias in her early teens. He eventually learned to interchange poetry stanzas for rap bars and found pleasure in both spoken word and cipher rapping. His influences include Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Eminem, and R Kelly, Bone Thugs & Harmony, to mention a few.

Cos’s goal with his upcoming “My World” [EP] is to display his verbal skill-set on various topics not typically discussed in mainstream hip-hop, issues such as being raised by a single mother, relationship, being abandon by his father and his mother tragic accident caused by Bloomfield police officer chasing a stolen car; which laid his mother to become disable.

“My World” a mixture of club, a relationship that is a laid-back hip-hop sanguine of despair and hope, laced with great bars about father abandonment and heartbreak, featuring local underground rappers.

“This accomplished rapper has a perfected flow and a strong rapping vocabulary, so you don’t know what to expect from the rapper. These characteristics are what I look for in a rapper. Rapper’s with a dynamic and changing flow that isn’t predictable with their wordplay create a strong and powerful track to best present their ideas through music. This track is perfected and deserves your listen today. You can do so here: My World” EP is out March 5th on his birthday.
