Bio

Sean Backstrom was born and raised in the suburbs of Vancouver WA, an average suburb town 20 minutes north of Portland Oregon. As a young child, Sean was immediately obsessed with musical instruments, and especially creating rhythms with drums. As young as 10 years old, Sean was starting bands and telling fellow classmates and teachers that he would be rich and famous from his music. At the age of only 11, Sean was playing drums for his youth group at church, and by the time he was 12, was playing for the main Sunday ceremony crowd of 300 people.

By 2012, Sean was starting as a drummer for a local indie rock-alternative band he started called "West". Sean soon became unsatisfied with playing a single instrument. Growing up playing trumpet in a concert band for seven years, he became enthralled with the idea of composing entire pieces, and became disenchanted by only playing drums. In early 2014, Sean left his band "West", and began intensely studying his longtime favorite genre, Hip-Hop, and more importantly the studio production of Hip-Hop instrumentals. After only a month of tirelessly creating beats and sampling music, he began selling Hip-Hop instrumentals to local artists, and other rappers via online marketing through SoundCloud and Twitter. Sean became so obsessed with creating and studying Production that in early-mid 2014, Sean quit his job to divert as much time as possible into music creation. At this time, Sean began to find inspiration to create his own vocals on his beats, inspired by self producers such as Kanye West, and started honing the craft of rapping and singing, as well as the mixing and mastering of vocals.

With the release of his first single "Elevators", released on July 9th, 2014 on iTunes and other distributors, Sean was immediately recognized in Vancouver by High school age teens for his summer vibe, and laid back rap flows. On December 1st, Sean released his first full EP, "I Don't Care" on all major distributors. It created a local buzz when over 500 flyers were placed in classrooms at his high school, and other schools in proximity to it, garnering attention from both students, as well as teachers; impressed by the professional quality and skills displayed in his production and vocal technique.

With no local venues to perform at in Vancouver, Sean seeked to recreate Vancouver's most successful venue, the "Revolution Room" which was closed down in mid 2012; a venue in which Sean spent almost every weekend of his early-teens at to watch the different local bands and rappers. Using the auditorium of River Rock Church, Sean held his first live performance, titled "The Fine Dining EP Release Party" on February 8th, 2015. Sean surprised the audience with a complex light show, and exclusively produced storyline, creating a feeling of professionalism, untapped by many starting local artists. Sean hosted another concert on April 11th, 2015, where he continued using lights, storylines, and also a live bassist to accompany his music, effectively maximizing his entertainment value. As a fresh artist, Sean Backstrom looks to reach the top of the rap game, as well as prove that through incredible hard work, and a passion, that anything is possible, and that no one should fear the risk of doing what you love, no matter what the cost is.
