Biography

My name is Sean Brennan. I was born in Oak Ridge, Tennesse and have lived in NYC, Boston, LA, and Nashville. My music is from the heart acoustic based folk/rock, depending on who I am playing with/for. I play guitar, piano, mandolin, banjo and bouzouki. I have a lifetime of experience playing and singing traditional Irish music, which influences my music as well as my many years of playing in alternative bands (the pigs...ezra clock) in Boston in the 90s.

I am influenced by so many artists and bands it is hard to list just a few... Shane McGowan, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, Bruce Cockburn, Tom Waits, Uncle Tupelo, David Gray, Sean Tyrell, Paul Brady, Springsteen.... it goes on and on.

I have almost 30 years experience playing live in all sorts of venues from small pubs to small theaters and festivals, with trad ensembles, in sessions, with rock bands, solo and in duos. I love performing my music anywhere and everywhere, and strive constantly to innovate and enrich my repertoire.

Lyrics

texarkana

Written By: sean brennan

six hundred miles out of little rock, just tryin' to get free
tried so hard i called but i dropped the telephone
six years of questions lie behind me, probably twenty more to come
but for now, i'm movin' on.... for now, i think it's gone

texarkana, and i think i can
but i don't know how, and i don't know when
texarkana, and i think i can
but i don't know how, and i don't know when

three hundred miles off the highway, on another road of dreams
i can't see you anymore, but you won't let go of me
a hundred bottles i put down, a hundred nights i spent sleepin' on the cold ground
i still don't see, and i still believe...

texarkana, and i think i can
but i don't know how, and i don't know when
texarkana, and i think i can
but i don't know how, and i don't know when

trail of tail lights behind me, don't look back is what you said
just want to go where your voice won't find me,
where i can't hear those words inside my head...
headin' west, the sun is goin' down, another road, another town
maybe then i'll realize, maybe then i'll close my eyes

texarkana, and i think i can
but i don't know how, and i don't know when
texarkana, and i think i can
but i don't know how, and i don't know when...

galway senorita

Written By: sean brennan

it's my last night in galway, strollin down shop street
feeling a thirst i duck into the quays for a pint of plain
someone's playin a box just outside of the door
sounds something like the cliffs of moher, and its raining again

i nod for a pint and find a view of the band
into their last set and i can't see their hands while the rhythm flows
the lark in the morning (when i have to go)
some set of tunes i used to know watch the blur of the bows...

then out walks a lass she is pickin' up glasses
lost in a song as she sways right on past doing a hint of a step
silky black hair and midnight eyes
framin' the saddest sweetest smile i could never forget

pretty senorita, really like to meet you
by the spanish arch, under a galway moon
singin that old sweet tune

now the night lingers on and the crowds movin on
as i put down my pint with a taste of uisge ba and shes smiling at me
my heart starts to race as they empty the place
i'm looking over my glass and trying to smile back oh shes smiling back at me

i can hear her now so close to me
singin some strange old spanish melody
try to say the words, she doesnt understand
then she walks away with one of the boys in the band...

pretty senorita, really like to meet you
by the spanish arch, under a galway moon
singin that old sweet tune

its my last night in galway, stumblin' down shop street
drifting in porter, shut out of the quays i'm tryin to find my way home
was it a dream i just had or was she really there
the dark eyed girl with the silk black hair... but im walkin home alone

pretty senorita, really like to meet you
by the spanish arch, under a galway moon
singin that old sweet tune
