Bio

Sean Croal is an upright and electric bass, part time world traveller and vinyl record enthousiast. Born in St. Albert, Alberta but left at a young age to attend school and study bass in Doha, Qatar under renown Qatar Philharmonic bassist Matteo Gaspari. A brief brush up with bone cancer in 2012 encouraged Sean to move back to Alberta. After a full recovery (and a new knee) Sean continued on to study with legendary Alberta bass player Rubim De Toledo. Sean is quickly establishing himself as one of the most active names in the Alberta music scene.

Highlights from his early career include performing with artists such as Joel Gray, Craig Brennan, and Dean McNeil in the Little Birds Combo Band; performing at the Bob Mintzer at the Yardbird Suite with legendary saxophonist Bob Mintzer; and taking part in Aberhart Jazz Night playing with Terell Stafford, Dick Oats, and Luis Bonilla of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.

Whilst in his third year at MacEwan University, Sean furthers his playing and travel experience by spending a semester in Helsinki, Finland, attending Metropolia University. Sean will be returning to Edmonton to finish off his final year of school in the jazz department, complete with a welcome home show in Edmonton’s Cafe Blackbird and Calgary’s Koi in the upcoming new year. In the meantime Sean continues to play with local bands such as the 9s, Edmonton Philharmonic Orchestra and various other bands in the Alberta area. Sean hopes to continue to act as a lead voice in performing, educating and developing the Canadian music community.
