"Sean Hutton Supershow"

June 11, 2011 Beverly Paterson -
Oh no, an asteroid is headed towards earth and will wipe out the entire human race! It’s up to the Sean Hutton Supershow to save the planet from this deadly force, and they will do so through the power of their marvelous music. A concept album spilling forth with good vibrations, “The Fate Of The World” puts the fun back in rock and roll. Imagine Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders of Mars swapping licks with the Byrds, while Nick Lowe and Marc Bolan share lead vocals with the Beach Boys harmonizing in the background, supported by flashes of wicked instrumental action from the Sweet and Kiss, and that pretty much describes the sonic aspects and vision behind “The Fate Of The World.” The disc launches off in flamboyant form to “Birth Of A Supershow,” which smolders with drama and cinematic persuasions. An equally haunting effect is reprised on the orchestral maneuvers of “Sky Kings,” and then there’s the bright, bouncy and brash dynamics of tracks like “Mondo Superstar” and “Seeds In The Street.” Snatches of sunny surf and hot rod influences wash over “Coolsville USA” and “Plymouth Barracuda“ (featuring Peter Rechter of Tol-Puddle Martyrs and the Secrets fame on organ), where the sharp and snappy “Quebec Girls” is a neon attired glam pop nugget. Such aspirations also manifest on the aptly titled “Glitterrock Show,” which blends the toxic tartan fever of the Bay City Rollers with an arena rock edge. Wall to wall with sinfully infectious hooks, guitars that alternatively twinkle and crash, and a gripping plot line, “The Fate Of The World” beams with character and feeling. The Sean Hutton Supershow is on a mission, and nothing will prevent them from rescuing mankind from the killer asteroid and spreading their smashing music to the masses. A science fiction pop rock masterpiece, “The Fate Of The World” marks the beginning of many great sounds to come from the Sean Hutton Supershow. - Twist and Shake Records Reviews
