Biography

GET A LITTLE "ACTION"
Sean Smith is about to re-release his album ACTION CITY with new artwork and photos by Mara Taber. "ACTION CITY" was released digitally in late 2008. Physical copies will now be available at cdbaby as well as live shows. Produced by DAVID IMMERGLUCK (guitarist, COUNTING CROWS), the album features Chris Seefried (LOW STARS) on guitars and backing vocals, drummer extraordinaire DON HEFFINGTON and Immergluck on various guitars and bass. ACTION CITY boast a big rock sound over a laid back acoustic/Americana vibe, with tasteful lead guitar and even a little fuzz bass thrown in courtesy of Immergluck.
Of working together on ACTION CITY, Immergluck says "Sean's vivid songwriting just keeps getting better and better! East meets West again as the New York punk poet travels to the Golden state to randomly fuse the transcendental with some old fashioned NY urban grit...One of the most satisfying recordings I have had the pleasure of being part of"

ACTION CITY is the follow up to 2006 'UNDERACHIEVER"
a five-song EP with four of the songs also produced by IMMERGLUCK, featuring Crows keyboardist CHARLIE GILLINGHAM on piano, organ and Wurlitzer, as well as wailing lap steel and pedal steel guitars played by Immergluck (who also lends a hand on bass, acoustic guitars and backing vocals when needed).LOW STARS' CHRIS SEEFRIED rounds out the session with lush harmonies and haunting piano bits reminiscent of"Hunky Dory" era Bowie. "Girl in the Movie," was produced by fellow NYC singer/songwriter JESSE MALIN, and features CHRISTINE SMITH (MALIN, RYAN ADAMS, MARAH) on piano and organ, and backing vocals.
Smith's music hearkens to Paul Westerberg, Elvis Costello, and Joe Strummer in its lyrical preciseness, raw moods, wit grit, and power.

"I've always been influenced by great songwriting...I love Paul Westerberg, Elvis Costello, and many others.
It's a funny business, you have to love it!"

LOVE IN DISGUISE

Written By: Sean Smith

Is this love in disguise or is this just a feeling that burns up in the light. Is this love in disguise? Should I even question? You're here with me tonight.

I've been a gambler, a dealer and a thief.
I've drank with ramblers, sinners and with priests. Tonight a toast until we meet again. I'll sing this song for you till the satellite crashes.

As I walk through this life, is this just another lesson cause this one feels so right. Is this love in Disguise? There are no easy answers. We've all heard so many lies.
I've been a gambler, a dealer and a thief. I've drank with ramblers, sinners and with priests. Tonight a toast until we meet again. I'll sing this song for you till the satellite crashes.
I still remember sitting there with you. We watched the world turn from red to blue.
Was that love in disguise. Or just another lesson that burns up in the light.
I've been a gambler, a dealer and a thief. I've drank with ramblers, with sinners I've played the priest. Oh lord, tonight a toast until we meet again. I'll sing this song for you till the satellite crashes. I'll sing this song for you, sing this song for you, I'll sing this song until the satellite crashes. The satellite crashes.

WILD ROSE

Written By: Sean Smith

Saw you standing across the room. You look a little like a wild rose. What are you doing so far from home? you look a little like a wild rose.

Do you ever wonder, do you ever wonder why.

You're wild eyes seem so far away. They make me feel like a child though. You whisper softly then you drift away. You look a little like a wild rose.

Do you ever wonder. Do you ever wonder why? I will give you answers, just give me a sign. Give me a sign.

When you're feeling angry and afraid, I feel the thorns of a wild rose. In a world of darkness, I'll be your light. Open up like a wild wild rose.
Do you ever wonder? Do you ever wonder why? I will give you answers, just give me a sign. Do you ever wonder do you ever wonder why? Do you wonder why?

Won't you let me help you, help you find your way back home? Won't you let me help you help you find your way back home?
You look a little like a wild rose, a little like a wild wild rose. You look a little like a wild rose. A wild wild rose.

HEY DANIELLE

Written By: Sean Smith & Greg Wood

She keeps her secrets buried deep. But they come alive when she dreams. Her night turns to day, so she'll pass the time away, drinking coffee reading girly magazines. She's a crime of opportunity.

Hey Danielle, they tell me you're bad company. Hey Danielle, honey you're a mystery to me.
She is only happy when she's stoned and the drinks are flowing all night long. But the work day never ends, so she's texting all her friends with painted nails, that her headaches on the mend.
She just wants to go where the music never ends.
Hey Danielle, they tell me you're bad company. Hey Danielle, honey you're a mystery, a mystery Danielle. Well maybe you're bad company, but honey you mean everything to me.

Late at night she feels afraid. She hates to be alone, so she hates to walk away. Morning comes with disregard that she's in disarray. Alone with her thoughts, man its always the same, always the same, hey Danielle.

She keeps her secrets buried deep.Like a hidden treasure in her dreams. But her night turns to day, so she'll slowly drift away drinking coffee, reading girly magazines, drinking coffee, reading girly magazines.
Hey Danielle they tell me you're bad company. Hey Danielle, honey you're a mystery, a mystery Danielle. Well maybe you're bad company. But honey you mean everything. The stars collide, you shine within. Baby you mean everything to me.

GIRL IN THE MOVIE

Written By: Sean Smith

Saw a movie tonight and it reminded me of you. I hope you still dream at night. God I hope that you're all right.

Guess I never really knew you. You never really let me in. Sometimes I could see right through you. in the end, you're just a kid.

Like the girl in the movie. Why'd you have to lie. That boy in the picture, I can't resist your smile. You told me that you loved me when we were getting high. Nothing lasts forever, and I'm just killing time.

Drank a bottle today. sometimes its all that sees you through. Let my mind just drift away, free of memories of you.

Guess I never really knew you. You never really let me in. Sometimes I still wanna hold you. In the end that's just a sin.

Like the girl in the movie. Why'd you have to lie. I'm the boy in the picture that can't resist your smile. You told me that you loved me when we were getting high. Nothing lasts for ever. And I'm just doin time.

ACTION CITY

Written By: Sean Smith

Need a little time down in action city, just a little time to ease my mind. Need a little girl to help me unwind. I'm just another silhouette against the evening sky trying to find a way to get by, to get by.
'Cause I need something more, yesterday I woke up on the floor. Yeah I need so much more. I know you think its wrong, at least I made it home.
Need a little time down in action city, just a little time to ease my mind. Need a little girl to help me decide.
I think I'll go down to New Orleans. jump into the river and wash it clean, wash me clean.
'Cause I need something more than a world outside knocking down my door.
Yeah I need so much more. Yesterday is gone but I'm still holding on.
I think this town has lost its luster.
Maybe I've just lost my shine. Time has its way with my reflection. But please don't hang me out to dry. I just need a connection, yeah..

Need a little time down in Action City, just a little time to ease my mind. Need a little herb, it helps me unwind. Maybe I'll go to California, L.A.'s not so bad after all, but after all.
I need something more than a world caught up in ignorance and war.
Yeah I need so much more. The innocence is gone but we're still holding on, we're still holding on tonight.
I'm just another silhouette against the evening sky, trying to find a way to get by down in action city.

TEARS IN THE RAIN

Written By: Sean Smith

Late at night I'm shaken from a dream.
City light, a drunken scream. Down below, the streets are paved with gold. When I walk, sometimes that feels so cold.
They're singing drunken gutter hymns to the cameras watchful eyes, but no one's looking out for us tonight.

Another moment lost in time like tears in the rain, like tears in the rain.

There's a girl, she comes to me every night in my subway dream. She sits across and always smiles at me. Then She's gone, ascending to the street.
Where shiny buildings tear a hole into the sky. Down below we're barely getting by.
Another moment lost in time like tears in the rain. Another moment lost in time, like tears in the rain.

I need to feel your touch. I need your perfect kiss. I'm wide awake tonight and I'm waiting, beneath this naked sky. Another moment lost in time....
Another moment lost in time like tears in the rain, another moment lost in time like tears in the rain. like tears in the rain, like tears in the rain.
in the rain..
They're singing drunken gutter hymns to the cameras watchful eye, but no ones looking out for us, there's no looking out for us tonight.
They're sing drunken gutter hymns.. to the camera's watchful eye

STORY NEVER TOLD

Written By: Sean Smith

She smiles across the room at a stranger.
Another drink to pass the time. No more words left to argue, only feeling left to hide. You weren't always on my mind.

You and I stumble through a world that's changing. You and I locked away in our own cages. You and I slipping through the cracks to get away. Have we lost our way?
Our story never told.

Wish I had the chance to tell her the way I really feel. Got all these plans and schemes for tomorrow. Tonight its home to an empty bed. Is this all just in my head.

You and I stumble through a world that's changing. You and I locked away in our own cages. You and I slipping through the cracks to get away. Have we lost our way? Story never told.

Don't you ever think about it? Don't it eat you up inside? Right or wrong, you'll probably never hear this song. But if you do drop me a line.

I'm off to play the fool in another bar.
Slinging songs from my guitar. Words can't always sing the pain away the pain inside, well that's no lie. Its like heaven never sent. I'll always wonder where you went.

You and I turning heads and turning pages. You and I, well they all know we're fucked up baby. You and I slipping through the cracks to get away.
Have we lost our way? Story never told.
Get away, get away, story never told.
Get away, get away, our story never told. Get away, to get away, I am never told, I am never told.

KATHRYN

Written By: Sean Smith

Looked up just in time to see you wave.
And you smile fade as the greyhound pulled away. A flood of thoughts rushing through my head, of memories and things I should have said.

I think we need a little more time. I think we need a little more time.

Sweet Kathryn you take my breath away.
Sweet Kathryn I really wish you'd stay.
Don't let that town steal your dreams away, sweet Kathryn.

They're setting up for Christmas in the square. But New York seems so empty now, without you here. And every time that door swings open wide, I turn my head and hope to see your smile.

I think we need a little more time. I wish we had a little more time.

Sweet Kathryn, you take my breath away.
Sweet Kathryn, I really wish you'd stay.
Don't let that town steal your dreams away, sweet Kathryn.

So merry Christmas my friend, new years, valentines, all your birthdays and the futures yours I can't pretend. As I sit here in this same old bar, your song playing in my head.

Remember Coney Island last May? We walked the beach as the music played. we drank and laughed, holding hands all day. Ain't it funny how it all just slipped away?

Sweet Kathryn, I wish you didn't go. Sweet Kathryn, so much I'll never know.
I hear St Louis calling but I need you today. Kathryn I'm begging you to stay, Kathryn I'm begging you to stay. Oh please stay. My sweet Kathryn, My sweet Kathryn, Kathryn.

SWIMMING BACKWARDS

Written By: Sean Smith

Lost in her reflection. She moves without a sound. I grab my guitar and a pen, but fumble like a clown. Am I sinking? Am I drowning? Am I still learning how to swim?
I need your light to guide me cause things are looking dim.

I feel like I'm swimming backwards as I reach out to you. Yeah, I feel like I'm swimming backwards as I try to get through to you.

Reaching out to no one, I try and catch my breath. I used to have a good dream, but now there's nothing left. And the guitar's in the corner. It doesn't seem to want to play. Has my moment come and gone have you seen my better day.

Cause I feel like I'm swimming backwards as I reach out to you. And I feel like I'm swimming backwards as I try to get through to you.

Restless like a nomad who knows its time to go. Just need a place I can call home. Guess I never realized, all of this a joke and its on me. Man the days keep flying by. And I'm so high.

I feel like I'm swimming backwards as I reach out to you. And I feel like I'm swimming backwards as I try to get through to you. And I feel like I'm swimming backwards, yes I feel like I'm swimming backwards. As I try to get through to you, through to you through to you.

SATELLITE

Written By: Sean Smith

A late night moment, soft words spoken. She said steady, I'm not ready. As love is disappearing like a thief in the night.

Outside in the streets, they rally to keep a little piece of green. The city it needs peace. As love is disappearing like a thief in the night.

She said love is a satellite.
I watched it fade from the sky. She said love is a tidal wave. I can feel it crashing down over me.

Headlines another day, justice far away
she pasted the protest. I froze helpless as love just passed me like a thief in the night.

She said, love is a satellite. I watched it fade from the sky. She said love is a tidal wave, I can feel it crashing down over me... repeat

A late night moment, soft words spoken..

SUGARSWEET

Written By: Sean Smith & Greg Wood

Could I be wrong about it sugarsweet?

I'm one block south of Houston, trying to get some sleep. I'm lost beneath these heavens, and I can't find my feet.

Could I be wrong about it sugarsweet?

I really start to tremble in a room without a view. I'm sitting here with my radio on, delighted in my muse.

I'm one block south of Houston but a million miles from you. I drift into the rhythm as Muddy plays the blues, play the blues now.

I search for inspiration in the shadows of the night. The wine has left me peaceful, but somethings just not right.

I thought I saw you standing there in all you're ragged style. I felt our our souls colliding beautiful and wild, yeah wild.

Could I be wrong about it sugarsweet.
Could I be wrong about us sugarsweet.
Sugarsweet, sugarsweet, sugarsweet.
