"Sudden Love"

I happened upon Sean Wood on another blog, and what a treat. On some of tracks I thought of the more mellow Beach Boys songs, but with modern production. I was immediately attracted to the most "out" song, "Slow." It starts out with meeting a boy, hey, there's immediate mutual attraction, but let's take it...slow. And the song "Ok, Stupid" is at the opposite end, opening with an infectious beat. But, you can sample his music for yourself...right now he just wants to get his music out there, so his bandcamp page says: "Download SUDDEN LOVE at any price you like. BUY IT, BURN IT, SHARE IT, LEAK IT, SPREAD IT, LOVE IT." - Queer Music Heritage

"The Model Musician"

If you recognize this Brooklyn musician, it’s because you’ve probably seen him in our Fall shoot in Redhook. We caught up with Sean Wood at his home which doubles as his studio in Bushwick, where the JMZ train roars along between takes right outside of his window.

What do you do? I am a musician – songwriter, singer, performer. I play the violin, piano, guitar and create programmed beats.

Tell us about your creative workspace and how you work in it? My workspace is in my bedroom in Bushwick. I have all of my instruments, mics, midi controllers, plug-ins, etc. in my personal space. It can be a little confusing at times knowing when to focus on sleep, and when to focus on “work”, but the intimacy and proximity to my own personal space I have found, can be a good thing in terms of efficiency

What are you inspired by? I’m inspired by a myriad of things. Love, loss, joy, sillyness, family, friends, cheaters, haters, lovers. I have way too many musical inspirations to name off.

How do you “Live, Work, Create?” When i think of this motto, I think about staying true to myself and my motivation in what I love to do, which is music. So I guess I “Live, Work, Create” everyday. I wake up thinking about music and my family and how to love people better, and how to be happier. I go throughout my day with this and I hustle, hustle, hustle. It’s the New York way. I will always be living, working, and creating music – for myself, my community, and for my sanity. - Brooklyn Industries

Bio

Born in San Francisco, CA, Sean Wood is one of six kids. At the age of 10, Sean and his family moved to the Sacramento, CA suburb of Folsom...home to the Johnny Cash record, "Live at Folsom Prison.” This is where Wood truly discovered his love and direction for music after joining The Sacramento Youth Symphony, and the Folsom High School Jazz Choir. The later was recognized by "Downbeat Magazine" as the #1 high school jazz group in the Nation for 1999.
Sean Continued his music education in the Jazz Studies program at the prestigious New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. Wood discovered his love for writing songs, while discovering jazz legends like Sarah Vaughan, Thelonious Monk and Chet Baker, under the tutelage of modern jazz greats like Dominique Eade, Steve Lacy, Ran Blake, and Frank Carlberg. During his time in Boston, Wood discovered some of his most long lasting influences for songwriting and performing such as Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, D'angelo, Bjork, Prince and Andrew Bird.
Sean released his first album of music tilted THE CANNONBALL EP in March of 2009. Shortly after, in June of the same year, his parents were in a tragic car accident. Sean lost his mother in the accident. Immediately, he left NYC to return to California to help his father recuperate from the accident after he came out of month long coma. During this time, Sean began writing songs for what is now SUDDEN LOVE, the 2012 debut full length release. SUDDEN LOVE was co-produced and engineered by Grammy Winner, Mario J McNulty(David Bowie, NIN, Lou Reed, Semi Precious Weapons, Prince, Kashmir, Angelique Kidjo).
Sean is happy and proud to have this music to share...something that is personal and honest without barriers.
