2. Sea Planes – “Right Now”
The worst Rochester music news I heard this year was that one of buffaBLOG’s favorite electro-pop bands, Sea Planes, broke up. The best Rochester music news I heard this year was that one of buffaBLOG’s favorite electro-pop bands, Sea Planes, got back together. We’ve been tracking the band since their 2013 debut single, “Lip Gloss,” which made a cameo on our top ten countdown last year. In 2014, Sea Planes did not disappoint, with three legit singles staggered strategically throughout the year, presumably to quench the blog’s thirst for more Planes.
Without a doubt, their strongest single from their latest batch of tunes is the summer-y 80′s throwback pop masterpiece, “Right Now.” The song has the hip sensibilities of Stepdad, the monster-catchy Holy Ghost appeal, and just all-around positive head bopping of 80′s electro megahits. JOYWAVE, when you guys start selling out Terminal 5 and KOPPS need an opener, bring Sea Planes (screams the “Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh” outro to end this paragraph). – MJM - buffaBlog
Rochester indie electronica band, Sea Planes, dropped a new track last week and on “Waterfall,” the duo has upped the stakes considerably with arena sized grandeur and ambition. If previous tracks “Right Now” and “Young At Heart” alluded to French electronica powerhouse M83, “Waterfall” is full on Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, and the result is rousing and gorgeous. The lyrics also contribute to the euphoria in part due to their impassioned determination, and the delightfully post modern real time deconstruction of the song itself. It’s a heady and adrenaline charged brew, and more pure musical goodness from Western New York. Enjoy. - buffaBlog

Sea Planes – “Right Now”
Rochester electro-pop two piece, Sea Planes, have been been on our radar just over a year. The project took a yearlong absence after releasing their debut track “Lip Gloss,” which made a spot in our top ten songs out of Rochester in 2013. Sea Planes came back with a jam last May with the track “Young at Heart,” which definitely filled our need for quality electro-pop out of the 585 ever since JOYWAVE’s nationwide schmoozing. With that being said, Sea Planes followup single, “Right Now,” is absolutely blissful, combining 80′s tinged instrumentation with a chorus and delivery of an XMU mega-hit. - buffaBlog
After a year plus wait between Sea Planes’ debut single and its superior follow up, the Rochester synth-pop duo has dropped its third track in the anthemic “Right Now.” Similar to last month’s “Young At Heart,” the new track finds the pair sticking with the big 80s sounds of drum machines, arena ready guitar solos, and shouting choruses. Fans of the Killers and M83 should like what they hear, especially as those “oh oh ohs” take us through the bridge.

4) Seaplanes - "Lip Gloss"
We frequently refer to bandcamp as the blog's best friend as we find tons of the new regional music that makes up so much of our daily content via the music streaming site. "Lip Gloss," the first recorded song from the new wavy rock group Sea Planes, hit the site early last spring, and immediately left us longing for the summer vibes bursting from the sunny single. "Lip Gloss" employs laid back first wave British Invasion type vocals and a sugary melody filled with fuzzy riffs reminiscent of a Los Campesinos! that remembered to take their ritalin. Fans of Rouge Wave, Grandaddy, and the Weakerthans should keep an eye on the four piece as we expect big things in 2014. - MPM - buffaBlog
Rochester’s Sea Planes have maintained radio silence for close to a year since releasing their debut single, “Lip Gloss.” The song made a huge impression on the buffaBLOG office, ranking as the fourth best song from our sister city in our 2013 countdown. So with this, we were delighted yesterday afternoon when Sea Planes warned us all via social media that a new song, “Young at Heart,” would debut “tomorrow,” or in other words, today.
While “Lip Gloss” sounds like it could have been on Top of the Pops, “Young At Heart” aims to be much bigger. Shouting harmonies, anthemic riffs, 80s synths, and one giant chorus has Sea Planes sounding like former Buffalo act All Blondes Go To Heaven if they started covering The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.
