SECOND HAND STEREO

Originally from New York, Chaz Coats-Butcher, a hard touring bassist and vocalist since the 90's, has a real penchant for smooth pop melodies and sweeping vocal arrangements. Along with Montreal Drummer/ Producer Dan Legault, the two formed the recording project 'Invisible Man' and in 2007 released the critically acclaimed "Music for Lost Souls and Misfits". Soon after that, a response to an ad in the classifieds would lead to a meeting with Toronto based Psychedelic Rock Guitarist / vocalist Peter Grant. With his distinct vocal and playing style, Peter brought a soulful Alt. Country vibe to the group. After a couple of years spent sweating it out in clubs, theatres, and festivals as a trio, the band would finally find their missing link in the keyboard styling's of one Zachary Scholes. Bringing his improv jazz rock piano and organ sensibilities to the mix Zach was a welcome addition to the band. And so with the final piece of the puzzle in place, Second Hand Stereo was born.

THE MAKING OF TRAVELERS - How To Capture a Moment

For their debut album they all agreed they wanted to capture that old school "live band" vibe that so many of their favorite artists of the 60's and 70's had. To achieve this, the band would write and arrange the music together, then record it immediately, live on the spot, together in the same room at Dan Legault’s Third Eye Studios. The end result is a natural, warm, roomy sounding recording with results that truly speak for themselves. With insightful, thought provoking lyrics and a multitude of musical influences, Second Hand Stereo's sound could be described as a mix of Retro Pop / R&B, Classic Rock, Alternative, Psychedelic and a dash of Old School Country. Call it what you will, but whatever the genre one thing is clear, if Second Hand Stereo is playing it, the sound and vibe are going to be authentic and heartfelt.
