Seconds Away

Seconds Away

BandRockAlternative

Alternative rock band bringing a fresh face and sound to the local music scene. With upbeat melodies and hard rhythms, they journey between the light and dark sides of music. Witty, worldly, and weird for the musical thinkers...simple grooves and catchy hooks for the audience singers.

Biography

What would you expect from a band with the name, "Seconds Away?" Add in the phrase, "from what?" and you complete the cliff-hanging question that Mark Borison, Richie Brees, Del DeGiuseppe, Jake Bertke, and Brad Hollmann seek to answer. Since 2004, Seconds Away has been painting the local music scene with its colorful blend of high energy rock, alternative, and power pop music
delivered with a sense of humor that walks the fine line between clever and immature. Unbridled imagination and a fan-centric approach have been the keys for Seconds Away's success.

Every change has been a welcomed challenge and every setback has brought forth
new opportunities for Seconds Away. After finishing 8th in Emergenza's 2005 Regional Finals among over a thousand bands spanning from Cleveland to St. Louis, Seconds Away hit the studio for the first time, recording with Rob Nadler from On-line Studio (now with Waycross Studios) and released their EP "Your New Favorite Wrong" in January 2006. The well-received debut opened up
many opportunities for the band and allowed them make their mark in the Cincinnati music scene.

Nearing the end of 2007, Shane (drums) and Mark (bass/vocals) moved on to form "The Press Club" while Del and Richie continued forward with Seconds Away.

After a fortunate introduction to Erwin Musper (whose name has been credited on albums for such artists as Van Halen, David Bowie, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Scorpions, Jeff Beck, Chicago, and Metallica) and his studio, The Bamboo Room, Del and Richie decided to hold off the search for replacement members and hit the studio again. The result...Seconds Away's eleven song sophomore album, "Tongue In Cheek" released June 2008, Friday the 13th.

2008 has been one of high action for the band. Seconds Away has christened new members Jake (drums) and Brad (bass and harmony vocals) with fire by taking opening slots for Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, and Bullet For My Valentine in the Taste Of Chaos tour, as well as Saves The Day and Metro
Station in the Bamboozle Road tour, and has reunited with former member Mark Borison, bringing back his rock front man "pipes" to the group. The band also briefly partnered with Starzz Promotions, who has represented Cincinnati bands
Close To Home, Black Tie Affair, Upset Victory, and Made Avail from Chicago.

With the lineup set, Seconds Away is again hitting the stage in both the local and regional music scenes while writing for its third album!

Lyrics

New Favorite Wrong

Written By: Richie Brees

many thoughts I keep in silence
I sit around and count the seconds
replay the scenes over in my head
all while holding my breath
'cause right now you're all I'm wanting
obey the voice inside that's calling
mix the feelings of joy and regret
can't believe that we haven't been caught yet

in one moment break self-control
I lose my mind when I get your signal
I'm patiently here waiting...for you
(you make me feel so guilty)
dark the skies so no one sees me
and all the rules that we feel like breaking
how easily we fake this...you
(you make me feel so guilty)

every step we take in motion
kicks the alarm and stirs commotion
but there's no need for us to confess
'cause we look so innocent
so break the will I
thought was so strong
I crawl to my
New Favorite Wrong

'cause in one moment break self-control
I lose my mind when I get your signal
I'm patiently here waiting...for you
(you make me feel so guilty
dark the skies so no one sees me
and all the rules that we feel like breaking
how easily we fake this...you
(you make me feel so guilty)

the more I feel the sin
the easier it is to take in
I know the soul is real
by the guilt I feel
you're worth the wait 'til night
my new favorite wrong

break the will I thought was so strong
I crawl to my favorite wrong
I know it's you
(you make me feel so guilty)
dark the skies so no one sees me
and all the rules that we feel like breaking
how easily we fake this...you
(you make me feel so guilty)

Candle

Written By: R. Brees

my self-induced depressive state of nation
resurrecting crave, pine for liquid medication
Russian Roulette with a recent memory
double shot kills, but her death is temporary!

on the side feign the lie 'til I lose my mind
end another night waterslide down to feeling fine
so throw the towel in the fight to free the regret
all the while trying to keep from getting wet!

oh, I hold...your candle

i sometimes feel like burning
i'm cinder on the inside
i shine bright
like the thousand lighters
that set your words on fire
look, how the flame goes crazy
can you feel, how the heat bleeds through?
how cruel, with this pocket full of embers
that's how i remember you!

and my desperate call to action
amplified by my lacking satisfaction
spins the wheel on a midnight fantasy
and wakes up driving both wheels off the concrete!

oh, I hold...your candle

i sometimes feel like burning
i'm cinder on the inside
i shine bright
like the thousand lighters
that set your words on fire
look, how the flame goes crazy
can you feel, how the heat bleeds through?
how cruel, with this pocket full of embers
that's how i remember you!

oh, I hold...your candle

i sometimes feel like burning
i'm cinder on the inside
i shine bright
like the thousand lighters
that set your words on fire
look, how the flame goes crazy
can you feel, how the heat bleeds through?
how cruel, with this pocket full of embers
that's how i remember you!

Inbetween Dreams

Written By: R. Brees

[v1]
If I could watch you
while you were sleeping
I'd whisper softly
and guide your dreaming
so hug your pillow tight
and brace for the ride
tonight you and I
are gonna leave this world behind

we'll swim in waters
between islands
one's made of onyx
and the other in diamonds
the sand from their shores
are mixing in the sea
that if we go under
our last taste is bittersweet

[c1]
inbetween dreams
i'm longing to fall alseep
(night to day
gettin' carried away
falling deeper in
trying not to wake)
inbetween dreams
longing to fall asleep
and wanting you next to me

[v2]
in the day
we all look the same
makeup and masks on the face
trying to hide the pain
we hide our feelings
by keeping busy
this hopeful dreaming
makes our life worth living

[c1]
inbetween dreams
i'm longing to fall alseep
(night to day
gettin' carried away
falling deeper in
trying not to wake)
inbetween dreams
longing to fall asleep
and wanting you next to me

[bridge]
am I really happy?
can you feel "good" and "hurt"?
so many variations
on such a simple word

[c1]
inbetween dreams
i'm longing to fall alseep
(night to day
gettin' carried away
falling deeper in
trying not to wake)
inbetween dreams
longing to fall asleep
and wanting you next to me

[c1]
inbetween dreams
i'm longing to fall alseep
(night to day
gettin' carried away
falling deeper in
trying not to wake)
inbetween dreams
longing to fall asleep
and wanting you next to me

I Explode

Written By: R. Brees

[v1]
my hand on yours your hand on my knife
cutting the rope before it pulls tight
dropped to our knees yeah we've got room to breath
and all the time in the world to lose the memory
easy letting go out of sight out from my mind
the feelings that were known tiptoeing on the inside
I take it all with a smile,
I take it all with a smile

[c1]
yes I can be cold
I can speak so uncontrolled
I can shove you back when you test me
and I'll break your will when I'm angry
I can cut you down with a simple lie
and cover my ears when I think you'll cry
You've gone too far when you see
this side of me

[v2]
suddenly I don't feel so predictable
suddenly I don't feel like playing fair
you could say that the hit was accidental
and I would say honestly I don't care
suddenly I'm brought back down to my knees
suddenly all the pain is surfacing
maybe one day we'll have a truce when
you stop reminding me...I'll stop hating you

[c1]
yes I can be cold
I can speak so uncontrolled
I can shove you back when you test me
and I'll break your will when I'm angry
I can cut you down with a simple lie
and cover my ears when I think you'll cry
You've gone too far when you see
this side of me

[breakdown]

[c1]
yes I can be cold
I can speak so uncontrolled
I can shove you back when you test me
and I'll break your will when I'm angry
I can cut you down with a simple lie
and cover my ears when I hear you cry
You've gone too far when you see
you've gone too far

[c2]
yes I can deal it low
I can spin myself out of control
I can drag you down in the dirt with me
and run away when you're lonely
I'd cut myself just to scar your pride
and make a scene for their open eyes
you've gone too far when you see
this side of me

Moonlighting

Written By: R. Brees

[v1]
in perfect silence i'm in absolute noise
voices calling my name
i just scream to them "no"
all my life spent charting the skies
a million wishes i've seen
but none are burning for me

[pc1]
i don't want to understand why
too much to take at one time
dear agony, can you hear me?

[c1]
why do i find the sad song
the only company when i'm so lost
dear agony i'm begging don't leave
how long you think i'll stay strong
when so many times i've been led wrong
dear agony have sympathy
i'm already defeated

[v2]
what i don't say could scare you away
while lying at night
these thoughts keep me awake
i'm fighting to hold on
i'm letting you make me crawl
why am i fighting
why am i hiding

[pc2]
heart and mind keep them to myself
revealing to no one else
dear agony, can you tell me

[c1]
why do i find the sad song
the only company when i'm so lost
dear agony i'm begging don't leave
how long you think i'll stay strong
when so many times i've been led wrong
dear agony have sympathy
i'm already defeated

[pc3]
I don't want to understand why
too much to keep this inside
dear agony?
dear agony?
