"Second Self "Confuse The Cat" (2017)"

In anticipation of the promised sunny weekend recharge yourself with positive optimistic about the new album "Confuse The Cat" American prog band SECOND SELF from Baltimore, Maryland.

This nice team was assembled in 2003, it is quite an active concert life, but outside the state is practically unknown. The discography of the band just two EP-album - "Second Self" (2010), and "Winter" (2011). Officially announced in March 33-minute mini-album "Confuse The Cat" - respectively, only the third release of the band.

The composition of its 6 instrumental songs written already long-established structure: Jimmy Hunter (guitar), Brett Tozzi (guitar), Nick Stampone (bass) and Jeff Hunter (drums). When greater involvement guests-friends: Mario D'Ambrosio (saxophone) and Jon Brady (keyboards).

With regard to the marked in the credits vocalist Tim Nodar, then on the album it appears only once and very briefly - in the final, the longest on the album composition "When The Lake Dries". It's a pretty nice piece lyrical ballad type, but the nature of the album defines all the same it is not. SECOND SELF - instrumental band, although resorting to the services and talents of singer, when the authors feel that they get something out of what words can not erase (lyrical singing, by the way, most of all on the second EP group).

I would say that the specificity of "embarrassment cat" is defined instrumental compositions, in arrangements which used the saxophone and keyboards - and that virtually all instrumental album 5 rooms. Not that artistic aesthetics of the band took some different twist - rather a long-standing passion for musicians funk, rhythm and blues and fusion music got even more powerful acknowledgment. By the way, the statement of the musicians that they allegedly "psychedelic and experimental quartet" is not particularly trust. If this happened, then a very long time - at the beginning of a creative way. Now SECOND SELF play quite academic instrumental prog-fusion in a fairly wide range of compositional forms - from the rather complex and multipart up quite simple, melodic songs. Musicians obviously good improvisers, but the composite structure still is primary in their work. But texturing psychedelic music, experiments with sound or with an eclectic mix of genres and styles - they do not practice.

Instrumental progressive fusion of the SECOND SELF artistic, plastic and mobile. Musicians play easily, naturally and variability, interact perfectly and obviously derive great pleasure from playing. Ability to present complex form in the game, and even entertaining way, configure the listener on a proper footing, to cheer up, infect positive - I would say the main artistic talent group members. Well, gourmet, SECOND SELF prepared exclusively original twin-guitar ligature, with a connection in intersektsiyah saxophone and elektroorgana. Emphasizing the play "Song Plays You", "Confuse The Cat" and "Wednesday Time Lapse" - elegant, smart and very expressive, conceived and executed in my opinion.

Although all the numbers on this album very well, and sound well-delivered (this is the merit of a bass player, a producer). I can only complain about the shortness of the album. That, however, to the quality of executed music team has nothing to do ... I recommend, in one word! Nice spring weekend! - Recyclable Sounds

Bio

SECOND SELF is a psychedelic and experimental quartet that intricately bridges the chasm between rock and funk. With melodic guitar riffs, elaborate bass lines and feverishly measured drumming, balancing the jam and metal scene never sounded as exquisite and universally appealing. They create and play original music that showcases their ability to transition between tight arrangements and flowing improvisation. Unique, amicable and musically passionate, Jimmy Hunter (guitar), Brett Tozzi (guitar), Nick Stampone (bass), and Jeff Hunter (drums) intertwine to form a single inspiring entity, a Second Self.
