"99X on Local Heart-throbs"

"Hands down, Second Shift is the next big band to break out of Atlanta!" - Leslie Fram, Program Director - 99X Radio

"Speaking for Himself"

"The first time I saw Jonathan Baker I immediately wanted to fuck him... er... I mean he’s a star." - Butch Walker - 2004's Rolling Stone Hot Producer

"AJC's top local releases in 2006"

"The guitars ooze sleaze and dissipation without losing the pop appeal that bursts from these compact, hooky songs. Tunes like 'Power in Numbers' are clenched tight as a fist and carry the same hint of danger, but they're crisp and clean enough to be accessible. 'Art of Compromise' and 'Gun of a Son' call to mind the chunky pop of criminally under-appreciated Irish rockers Ash, and that's a wonderful thing. Bonus points for the kicky little stick figures in the booklet representing guest players such as ever-reliable producer Geoff Melkonian, Clay Cook and Mike Mantione." - shane harrison - Atlanta Journal Constitution

"The "it" Band of Atlanta"

"The band demonstrated that, in addition to its solid rock riffs and stellar live show, it also possesses another element crucial in making the move from local to national act and that's radio-ready hooks that stick in your head long after the onslaught of rock has ceased." - aol cityguide

Bio

With a motto of "Shut up and play," the allure of Second Shift lies somewhere between a head-on collision of alternative and mainstream. Call and response melodies and a captivating, rapid-fire live set have ignited a rabid fan-base and have helped the Atlanta, Georgia five-piece build up an impressive resume of rock in just two years, including opening slots for a number of high profile shows. Jet, The Vines, Weezer, The Bravery, OK GO, Hot Hot Heat and Louis XIV are among the acts that have called upon Second Shift to stir up the crowd with their frenetic, contagious sound and disarming stage presence, led by magnetic frontman Jonathan Baker.

Several major rock stations in Atlanta have also given Second Shift's contagious single "Bethany" airplay, including alternative radio staple 99X, 96.7 The Buzz, 96 Rock, and college radio giant Album 88 (WRAS). In late 2005, Second Shift released their debut effort, Boozed and Bruised, delivering a straight ahead rock n' roll album - edgy and pop driven. Produced by Geoff Melkonian (The Whigs, Modern Skirts), Second Shift's caffeinated first effort is drenched in urgency and laced with the perfect amount of swagger and wit. Chugging, fast-paced rhythmic guitars, backed by a relentless drum and bass line is the very definition of chaos refined. Loaded with supercharged pop hooks, self-deprecating humor and honest escapism, Boozed and Bruised showcases the inescapable innocence and constant uncertainty that is the life of a twenty-something.
