"Making some noise to Get Smart"

Two charitable Palmerston North 18-year-olds have used their musical skills to organise a concert to help get local youths to this year's Get Smart conference in Auckland.

Seconds Notice members Caleb Hickmott and Matty McEwen have spent the past month running sausage sizzles and other fundraisers to help pay for 50-60 people to go to the youth conference in July.

The idea of having a concert to raise funds came to Seconds Notice drummer Caleb Hickmott two weeks before the concert was due to be performed.

"It's all happened really fast, but we have had great support."

Like its name, the band is used to organising events with a second's notice.

They entered the 2010 Rockquest one day before applications closed, after forming at Freyberg High School last winter.

Since then they have built up a fan base in Manawatu and six months ago, opened for Katchafire at summer in the park.

The band consists of vocalist Matty McEwen, Will Haarhoff on lead guitar, bassist Nick Hanly, pianist Ainsley White and drummer Caleb Hickmott.

While Seconds Notice is headlining the concert, local bands Kelsey Lawn and Lacewig, Spaceball Ricochet, and Cadyn Thomson have agreed to play for free to provide hours of entertainment for concert-goers and to help raise funds.

Seconds Notice also recruited DirtBox Charlie drummer Hayden Lauridsen to help design the flyers that advertise the concert.

It will be the first time vocalist Matty McEwen has gone to a Get Smart conference.

"It's just such a great cause. They say the conference is a life-changing experience and we want to help get as many people there as possible."

The concert will be played at SALT 7pm May 28.

Tickets are available at the door and cost $10.

***We are keen green jellybeans to debut & perform @Parachute 2012!!!***

Bringing a fresh brand of music and a unique catching sound that will grasp you til you've finished dancing!

Second's Notice is a christian band, and was formed when Matty decided he wanted to enter Rockquest 2010.

The band was named 'Second's Notice' - quite ironic considering that we only just got our entry into Rockquest in on the last possible day!

We made the regional finals in Palmerston North 2010 as a 3-piece, before becoming a five piece (adding keys and a new guitarist) and playing at the Freyberg High School Senior Prizegiving in 2010, followed by a christmas lights party.

On Sunday the 13th of February, 2011, Second's Notice opened at the annual Summer In The Park in Palmerston North for Katchafire (Was originally going to be The Feelers). This was huge and we performed in front of a number anywhere in the midst of 5000-10,000 people!! The opportunity came at the perfect time, and from then on we became far more serious and intent with our music and direction.

Joey (the guitarist) decided it was time for a change and Aaron (bassist) got a full time job so they both left to further themselves with their other commitments, and so Caleb asked his friend Nick, a well known jazz bassist to come and take the place of his brother-from there we just needed a guitarist. Will Harhoff joined, and with his style we kissed goodbye to being called generic and classed as "power pop".

All in all, a new element was bought to Second's Notice. We are now a settled five-piece band! :D
