Secret Century

Secret Century

 Portland, Oregon, USA
BandPopRock

Three female friends, two guitars, synths and drums, queer and strong. We come from the moment between space and sound, delivered to a wishing forest. Warming our hands over beat love, sheltered by woven voices. We set the clocks and ring the bells at the end of time.

Biography

Fronted by guitarist and vocalist Heidi Hull, Secret Century conjures pop music inspired by the likes of Talking Heads, The Pretenders, and Patti Smith. Heidi performed as a solo artist from 2005-2009 and also founded the well received Salt Lake City band, Rope or Bullets during that time. She left the band and went on to record a solo album entitled "Pleasures Treasures" (self-releasing December 2010) with producer Johnny London.

After falling in love last summer with costume designer Jayme Hansen (Fleshtone), Heidi packed up and followed her heart to Portland, Oregon. She reconnected and moved in with old friend and talented musician Tasha Christensen (Brittle Bones, Hope and Anchor). It was in the basement studio of their North Portland home where they decided to take Secret Century to the stage. With Jayme on synths, Tasha on drums and guitar, and all three voices in harmony, they interpreted songs from Pleasures Treasures and gave them life.

This first Secret Century release kicks off an exciting future for the trio. Watch for their line-up of U.S. tours this spring, including an ambitious bicycle journey through the northwest. They are collaborating with photographers and video artists. The next album is already in the works. Their creative venery continues.

PLEASURES TREASURES

Written By: HEIDI HULL

saddle up
look at the rest of us
we better keep it up
if we know what's good for us
we got prairie dust
all over us
but i don't mind as long as you're on my side

chorus:
searching for treasure
then we found pleasure
unaware of the danger
i would discover
searching for pleasure
then we found treasure
so aware of the danger
i would discover

sat alone
and watched the wind blow
heart said "go"
and we lost a load
but i don't mind as long as you're on my side

chorus

Sleep Tight

Written By: Heidi Hull

I was born on a mountain range where the churches dominate the landscape and you can never be
who you are
but I finally feel at home with my hand against the neck and my fingers strumming down

get out before it's too late
get out before there's nothing to save

teach little girls to like pink
teach little boys it's not ok to cry about anything
and you can never be
who you are
I was reminiscing about the days when I was flat chested
they said
"You'll blossom really well"
I never felt like a flower

Get out before it's too late
get out before there's nothing to save

Sleep tight
don't let the bed bugs bite you
or the nightmares fright you

And you just can't get around it
just can't get through it
it's always staring at you in the face saying
you'll never escape
cause this is all you are
just a little girl
stuck in a
small town

Sleep tight
don't let the bed bugs bite you
or the nightmares fright you

Everything's coming up roses
this time is just for
you

Everything's coming up roses
this time is just for
you

Everything's coming up roses
this time is just for
you
