"Secret Century, Brittle Bones and La Pump"

It's Brittle Bones week in Portland! In addition to the band's three shows this week, singer/guitarist Tasha "Trasher" Christensen will see double duty tonight as a member of billmates Secret Century. The all-female trio debuts their Pleasures Treasures LP tonight, a concise offering of upbeat pop numbers orchestrated by the band's founding member, Heidi Hull. Pleasures Treasures ricochets from straightforward rock and roll to electro-tinged pop numbers, all of which are capped by the desperate voice of Hull—the Secret Century frontwoman sings every word as if it's her last. Rope or Bullets Undisputed
Rope or Bullets’ two-song, debut EP has more frantic energy than most full lengths ever fully realize. The title track rushes the album out of the gates by layering schizophrenic sing-speak over melodic wailing—thanks to the compelling male/female dynamic. Part post-punk, part dance “Undisputed” teeters on the edge of losing its focus, which makes it all the more exciting (extra props for being able to throw in a convincing theremin!). The second song is touchingly playful observation of Utah-living, but the duo’s vocals, again, add the potent uneasiness that makes this EP so successful (they somehow make the lyrics “There’s a test on Tuesday, it’s on the Great Lakes!” sound menacing). Discography

Album entitled, "Pleasures Treasures" Available now!

"We long for the sacred pleasure of the ride, no end in sight. Coming together with decades of lost treasures and a panic from the pace of time. Together we can write all the untold stories, when magic ruled the world and stardust was your favorite lover. Keep your heart in from the cold, tell the adventures you never told."

Bio

Fronted by guitarist and vocalist Heidi Hull, Secret Century conjures pop music inspired by the likes of Talking Heads, The Pretenders, and Patti Smith. Heidi performed as a solo artist from 2005-2009 and also founded the well received Salt Lake City band, Rope or Bullets during that time. She left the band and went on to record a solo album entitled "Pleasures Treasures" (self-releasing December 2010) with producer Johnny London.

After falling in love last summer with costume designer Jayme Hansen (Fleshtone), Heidi packed up and followed her heart to Portland, Oregon. She reconnected and moved in with old friend and talented musician Tasha Christensen (Brittle Bones, Hope and Anchor). It was in the basement studio of their North Portland home where they decided to take Secret Century to the stage. With Jayme on synths, Tasha on drums and guitar, and all three voices in harmony, they interpreted songs from Pleasures Treasures and gave them life.

This first Secret Century release kicks off an exciting future for the trio. Watch for their line-up of U.S. tours this spring, including an ambitious bicycle journey through the northwest. They are collaborating with photographers and video artists. The next album is already in the works. Their creative venery continues.
