Secret Radio

Secret Radio emerged in 2008 from the creative babel that is Astoria. Yes, this is an indie-rock band that springs from the fantasically creative, sometimes subversive, always surprising northwest corner of Queens. Marked by smart and engaging songwriting, and melodic electric and acoustic hooks. We're a five-piece ensemble from the US, UK, Bulgaria, France and South Korea - in other words a typical New York band. Songwriter and singer Damian Fowler has a classical background in piano and is sufficiently pretentious to cite David Bowie and Schubert as influences.  Meanwhile, lead guitarist Bebbo is inspired by the soaring tropes of Pink Floyd, the gritty blues of Jimi Hendrix and the cacophonic thrill of Blixa Bargeld. our violinist Jane Kittredge trained at Mannes College of Music, NY, has toured as a soloist, played with a wide range of orchestras and chamber groups and has performed in her home state of Vermont with the band Phish. And the rhythm section, bassist Jungsang Yoo and drummer Julien Davoust, forged their grooves in the late-night heat of clubs in Seoul and Paris.  

As well as our diversity of background, we have musical influences from the classical to the indie rock world. Our lyrics are thoughtful and poetic. We like the collision of high art and rock, poetry and anthem, the melancholy and the sublime. We will take and English murder ballad and set it to music, or a tango beat and groove to the sound.
