"Andria Lisle CD Review"

"Although it's only March, the self-released The Service Is Spectacular already has my vote for album of the year. Recorded at Jim Dickinson's Zebra Ranch Studio with Kevin Houston engineering (overdubs were done with Pete Matthews at Ardent) and mixed at Ardent by Jeff Powell, the record boasts sly songwriting, first-class musicianship, and crisp production by Steve Selvidge. Songs like "Cold Sparkles," "Good Love and a Heart Attack," and "Milkshake," which the group hijacked from Chicago rockers MOTO, sound as timeless as "The Boys Are Back in Town" or "Eighteen."" - Memphis Flyer

"Bob Mehr Review"

The Service is Spectacular, Secret Service (Peabody). Boogie jams par excellence from this Midtown combo led by frontman Justice Naczycz and guitarist Steve Selvidge. Summoning the hirsute spirits of ZZ Top and Thin Lizzy, among others, the group delivers meaty slabs of classic rock with a knowing wink and a heaping of punkish attitude. - Commercial Appeal

"Memphis Flyer's Top Albums of 2006"

1. The Service Is Spectacular -- The Secret Service (Peabody Records): If titles such as "Camaro" and "Workin' Too Hard" aren't proof enough, the aural signifiers on this debut album are clear: the drummer counting it off at the top, blues-boogie guitar riffs cranked to 11, the bass player rumbling like a big rig down the interstate, vocals fueled by exaggerated swagger. These are the four corners of a world where durable but mediocre '70s hard rock (think Bachman-Turner Overdrive) is given loving, confident reconstruction. It might sound easy, but it only works with a band that has the chops and sensibility to pull it off, and this one does. Though there are many reasons to like the Secret Service, the band's function as a platform for Steve Selvidge to go apeshit with his guitar is all you really need. - Chris Herrington, Memphis Flyer

Bio

The Secret Service wants to rock you. They don't want to sell you a soda or an asymmetrical haircut. They're too old too be hip and too young to be jaded. Their 70's era classic rock antics are a throw back to the days before you had to worry about fashion to sell your record. Their stage act is full of rock and roll dramatics with everything from the over-the-top guitar solos, metal-style vertical bass playing, and a boa here and there. Although the act is not lacking in jest, it is lacking in artifice.
