"Jake's Block Party with Universe Contest | Photo Essay"

Second onstage, See Through Dresses reminded me of a soundtrack I would bring during a long road trip winding through Nebraska dirt roads. Sara Bertuldo and Matt Carroll’s vocals complemented each other like Bonnie and Clyde, minus the bank robbing. - Hear Nebraska

"Live Review: Jake’s Block Party (See Through Dresses, Oquoa, Twinsmith)"

See Through Dresses had a sound that bounced between Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. Needless to say Sara Burtuldo’s interplay with with frontman Matt Carroll (Nate Van Fleet and Robert Little round out the four-piece) gives the band a Thurston Moore / Kim Gordon flair. When they throw in a New Order cover, well, things get out of hand (in a good way). As a whole, less punk and more post-punk than Sara’s other project.

Bio

See Through Dresses have crafted a catalogue of songs indebted to classic post-punk and new wave artists of the 80's, yet their sonic footprint more closely resembles the textural treatments of 90's dream-pop and shoegaze records. The arrangements often build, as though to erupt, only to implode. There are moments when Sara Bertuldo (vocals, guitar) and Matt Carroll (vocals, guitar) sound noxious and distant, their voices drowning in reverb, guitars droning and pulsing. When the clouds seem darkest, See Through Dresses offer flashes of pure pop sunshine to punctuate those moments of isolation and distance. At their most hopeful, See Through Dresses portray the simplicity of longing and the eagerness that accompanies an expectation for love in a loveless culture. At their most honest, they portray a dull terror born of idleness, sickness, and failure. The result is a well-rounded catalogue that disillusions as it comforts, soothes as it burns by injecting the familiarity of music-gone-by with lyrics about regrettable psychologies - it's a total bummer that's still fun to listen to. See Through Dresses are set to release their self-titled debut LP on November 30th, 2013.
