It's usual for artists with similar backgrounds to form a group. Which is why most people are surprised when they learn who Self Conscience is comprised of. Emjae and Unique came together to form the group in 2004. Though naming themselves Self Conscience they have little reason to be. On every track they greet their fans with genius flows and thoughtful lyrics accompanied by braggadocio reminiscent of the golden days of Hip Hop.

On one side you have Matthew "Emjae" Joiner aka "Mr. South and East” who spent his childhood living in both New Orleans, LA and Hartford, CT. A true product of his environment, everything about him resonates trademark characteristics from both cities. Like a true Southerner he loves to party just as the East coast provokes thoughts, Emjae embodies the marriage of these two distinct styles. On the other side stands Kurtis "Unique" Gomez aka "Mr. UsoFly", a New Britain, CT native and creative genius. Known for his original style and cocky swag, his high energy is transferred from his flow into everyone who hears his music. The end result is a mind blowing collective of various talents and what very well may be the future of music.

Together they have released a flurry of mix-tapes and an album all of which received critical acclaim. They are currently putting the finishing touches on their newest album "Pyramidology" which will be released in 2008. Meanwhile their latest mix-tape "Crash Music" was released in October of '07 accompanied with a video for "Crash Music". Having accumulated a loyal fan base by winning them over with their high energy performances, Self Conscience has even made fans of industry insiders by opening up for the likes of Jim Jones and the Sugar Hill Gang. As a group Self Conscience has had several changes in their roster but Unique and Emjae have been the one constant and what many consider the heart and soul of their movement. The last four years have been spent preparation as they have built their brand and prepared their official debut. The stage is finally set for the world to hear Self Conscience and experience what has had the streets on Connecticut ablaze for the past four years.
