Semifinalists

Chris Steele Nicholson, Adriana Alba, and Ferry Gouw joined the same film school a couple of years ago. Ferry had been in London for 6 years, gone through art school and was fucking around in bands. Chris and Adriana had been doing similar sorta stuff in Chicago and New York respectively, before coming over to London. Ferry and Chris soon hung around and messed around with music, formed the now miniscule legend INTENSEDUDES with some friends n’ subsequently broke it up. Around the same time they n’ Adriana were also making films and shit.
The three of them first worked on a film project together around this time last year. At the same time Chris and Ferry were goofing around in a rehearsal space, supposedly trying to record a soundtrack for a friend’s film. The session turned into a cool sound. They then invited Adriana to goof around with them. This became Semifinalists.
The Semifinalists sound: Imagine all the 80’s pop hit records, melted into one huge blob, which then re-cut and re-constructed by King Crimson and Sonic Youth. Of course references can be made to The Flaming Lips, The Unicorns, Cindy Lauper, etc, but fuck that. Semifinalists may sound psychedelic pop/folk weirdness schizophrenia, but they are punk as shit. PUNK AS SHIT! Dreamy dream dream.
