"LOCAL BAND Q&A: SemiGlory"

SemiGlory gives you a wild, energetic show reminiscent of New Found Glory and Blink-182.

Q: How did you get your name?

A: Ryan Hebrink, drums: (laughter) We're sitting in the garage, and there's a spray can that said "semi-gloss," and at the time I don't know what we were thinking. But we got SemiGlory from a semigloss paint can.

Q: When did you decide to start playing music?

A: Hebrink: Freshman year, about four years ago.

Q: What made you decide to play your instrument of choice or sing?

A: Hebrink: I couldn't play anything else. Ryan Hodges went to a party one time, and there were some guys there playing guitar, and he thought it was really cool.

A: Levi Fisher, bass: I played bass because the band needed a bass player. So, I decided ... I'll play some bass.

A: Hebrink: Kevin Brown had a foreign exchange student when he was 7 years old that taught him how to play (guitar), and that's how he got into it.

Q: What is the first song you guys learned how to play?

A: Hebrink: "When I Come Around" by Green Day.

A: Ryan Hodges, lead guitar, backup vocals: "Toxicity" by System of a Down.

A: Kevin Brown, lead vocals, backup guitar: "All the Small Things" by Blink-182.

A: Fisher: "When I Come Around" by Green Day.

Q: How would you explain your band chemistry?

A: Hebrink: We have good chemistry. We treat each other like brothers, and we fight and argue like brothers, too.

Q: What is your favorite song subject to write about?

A: Hebrink: Probably getting out of high school or being on the road.

Q: How do you guys keep your music fresh, and what do you experiment with?

A: Hebrink: We experiment with a lot of guitar harmonies sometimes, and we just try to keep our music and our lyrics really catchy to keep it fresh.

Q: So, who do you guys think you sound like?

A: Hebrink: I think we probably sound like a mix of New Found Glory and Every Avenue.

A: Brown: A lot of people think we sound like Cartel and what not.

Q: What direction would you say your music's taking?

A: Hebrink: It's going up right now. We've got a lot of good things going for us.

Q: What do you think it takes to get discovered?

A: Hebrink: I think it will take the right time and the right place. It just depends on where you're out.

A: Brown: Staying positive and going with it.

A: Hodges: Dream big dreams. Do it for the love of it.
