"06.16.05 - Siberia Lounge .:. Review"

Instrumental Improvisation:
Listening to this is my first exposure to the band, and musically I like what I hear. The flowing improv has ambient/electronic elements. The effect is not smooth and sleepy though, especially given the prominent drumwork and wide dynamic range. At times it reminds me slightly of the open elements of my personal favorite reference point, MMW (The Dropper era, here), though the bands' styles are fairly different. - Diana Hamilton (archive.org)

Fly Life
Storm Front
In the wake of Katrina, clubs step it up with benefit shows
by Tricia Romano
September 13th, 2005 2:32 PM

I went to a low-key affair at Nublu on September 6 where the crowd soaked in the ethereal, electronic jazzy improv of s e n d, with a special guest appearance by Kudu lead singer Sylvia Gordon, who was in a shy mood and spent the whole set with her back to the crowd while delivering gorgeous wails. Kudu were supposed to headline, but Kudu's drummer, Deantoni Parks, couldn't get a flight back from Atlanta because there was so much air traffic coming from and going to New Orleans.

"New Release .:. Review"

Send, plays live, organic-rooted synth-flavored music that could either slip into the back of your head or occupy your entire consciousness. They’ve been aptly compared to Silver Apples, Can and DJ Spooky. - Justin Carter (nublu records / new release)

"live? EP .:. CD Baby Review"

Send's live? EP is a demonstration that structure and improvisation can be balanced to produce ambient music that both lulls and hooks; I "take it" as a sort of heady anesthetic, if that makes any sense. Chris Berry's drumming typifies this: he is both ferocious and respectful: he doesn't hold back, yet he leaves plenty of room for the other musicians to complete the sound. My knowledge of this type of music is limited, but I am reminded of Brian Eno's Ambient 4: On Land. - Peedie Oxter

"live? EP .:. Review"

"SEND's cd has a great apocalyptic feel and beautiful sounds. I recommend to anyone who may be interested in true improvisational & electronic/acoustic music to go see these guys live." - Amir ziV (Cyro Baptista's Beat The Donkey, Droid)

Send's music is a unique expression of the process of unification. The group draws inspiration from IDM, gamelan, funk, minimalism, and ambient music using acoustic instruments and electronics to recontextualize ideas and roles. During the improvisational process, send flows with the changing energies of a set while seeking the emergent pattern, which brings the form into focus.

Send was born in Brooklyn in Fall 2003 of four long-time friends with an interest in balancing the freedom of collective improvisation with the structure of composition. Since then, the band has been steadily building a loyal fan base in New York City playing weekly before KUDU (http://kudu2u.com) @ NUBLU (http://nublu.net) located in the East Village. They have also performed at Tonic, Knitting Factory, SOB's, Mercury Lounge, Lion's Den & Tribeca Rock Club. Send is becoming increasingly involved in cross-media projects--performing interactive sets with computer video art and live painting.
