SENECA

BandAlternativeRock

SENECA is the culmination of four dedicated musicians from varying musical backgrounds coming together to form a blend of original and alternative rock/pop music. They have taken their music to every corner of Ireland and have come across wonderful audiences delighted to hear this new musical breed

Biography

SENECA formed in mid 2005 and on the back of recording a 5 track demo that received rave reviews by local press they won the Limerick heat of the Jack Daniels 'Hardest Working Band' Competition on their first ever live performance. They followed this up by winning the 2006 University of Limerick Battle of the bands competition. Hotpress have commented on SENECA'S live performance as mixing "Doves-y waves of sound with the perpetual motion of Arcade Fire". The Limerick Leader suggested that SENECA "Combine the heartfelt sincerity of Damien Rice's lyrics with the lush and anthemic sounds of Snow Patrol to startling effect." 2007 is already becoming an excellent year for SENECA with them having opened shows for 'THE REPUBLIC OF LOOSE', 'DIRECTOR' and 'VESTA VARRO' as well as having one song ('So Beautiful') from their forthcoming album placed on the Ceol '07 album that was launched in March and which includes songs from Bell x1, The Corr's and many more popular Irish acts. On top of this they have been touring around Ireland as much as possible, headlining in venues such as Crawdaddy; Cyprus Avenue; Roisin Dubh; Dolans; Auntie Annies and many more in preparation for their soon to be released debut album 'SWEETER THAN BOURBON'

Lyrics

SWEETER THAN BOURBON

Written By: Robert Hope

I learned by trading my right hand for a packet of cigarettes.
We have a past, but I’ll trade you for another glass,
Or even a shot of some success
Did I mention this before?
Your eyes would make heaven hit the floor,
Something tells me that you should be mine.
Does it mean much over the phone?
Surely it beats being alone.
Something tells me you see through my lies.

Blood is thicker than bourbon I know that, I know that.
Nothing is sweeter than knowing that you said
You said I am always on your mind.
Why is that such a crime?

I am lost without you,
I’m chained to this city.
You are one of the few,
Who make me like living.

CLARITY

Written By: Robert Hope

Why should I trust you when all you do is lie,
But I find that I love you I guess that is my crime,
Why should I take this terrible abuse?
I’ll tell you one thing I’m a mess but so are you.

I shouldn’t listen when you say you will stop,
It means nothing but for some reason nothing means a lot.
Why do I always return to you when I know what you’ll do,
If you think hitting me gets respect you must be a fool.

I fell in love with a twisted heart of stone
Bent out of shape by a drawn out lifetime of control
I’ve tried to find a reason why I took my own life so young
And I’ve come to terms with the fact that I gave it for love.

Chorus
You’ve hit me once, twice, three times as I await the fourth,
I’m too scared out of my mind to drag you through the courts,
As long as I cry at night will that be enough to keep you satisfied
Hit me again, again, again, again I swear you’ll pay with your life.

I know, I know, you don’t need to tell me I feel as bad as you do surely can’t you see.
I’m not a charity case or statistic I’m a human being,
I’ve got feelings too but I find I can’t leave.

I’ve got my reasons for what you might call insanity,
I don’t my children to grow up with this kind of clarity,
I’m way too old for redemption I know I must have sinned,
If this is how god is punishing me then surely I’ll be let in.

Chorus
You’ve hit me once, twice, three times as I await the fourth,
I’m too scared out of my mind to drag you through the courts,
As long as I cry at night will that be enough to keep you satisfied
Hit me again, again, again, again I swear you’ll pay with your life.

Chorus
You’ve hit me once, twice, three times but there won’t be a fourth,
I was too scared out of my mind to drag you through the courts,
As long as I cried at night that was enough to keep you satisfied
Hit me again, again, again, again I swear you’ll pay with your life.

SMILE

Written By: Robert Hope

Give me a clue
One where I am not involved
What’s troubling you?
I’m sure again I am the cause

If it’s not one thing it is two
I’m either or not too alarmed
On most occasions there are few
If any issues to be resolved

Chorus
Please smile, please smile for me
It’s not that hard can’t you see
Don’t save your breath just breath
I won’t be long

I’ll survive you
And speak to others of your kind
The ins and outs of how you’re cruel
And how all these are not hard to find

Once again there is my cue
To step away right from your mind
You look at me and see a fool
I look at you and see you’re blind

Chorus
Please smile, please smile for me
It’s not that hard can’t you see
Don’t save your breath just breath
I won’t be long

Chorus
Please smile, please smile for me
It’s not that hard can’t you see
Don’t save your breath just breath
I won’t be long
