¿Es justificado nuestro entusiasmo o es que nos hemos pasado tantos años escuchando un rock en catalán tan ultra institucionalizado y tan vacuo que ahora cualquier cosa que se salga un poco de esa norma nos parece maravillosa? “L´experiència gratificant”, el debut de Senior i El Cor Brutal, fue grabado y masterizado entre Montevideo, Louisville y Nashville. Una ruta que entraña cierta lógica y que contribuye engrandeciendo el aura de un disco en el fondo muy de hablar de las cosas que nos pasan en el camino entre casa y el bar. Micalet Landete, guitarrista de los valencianos Euro Trash Girl, le canta a las mujeres y a los tiempos y lo hace desde el portal de su casa, con la convicción de quien sabe que no hay nada más universal que cantar sobre lo que uno ve con los ojos y siente en la carne. Y a todo eso Landete responde componiendo canciones con la mala hostia de David Lowery, la ironía de Kurt Wagner, la grandeza de Vic Chesnutt y la chulería tranquila de Will Oldham. Claro que también puede que esté exagerando. De hecho, es muy probable. Pero alguien capaz de escribir algo tan devastador como “El nostre pa de cada dia” o himnos del tipo “Quan no saps lo que tens” no puede ser del todo malo. Giving birth songs, thats what Senior does. Telling what he lives assuming that has happened to someone before or will happen soon. Being honest with him and with everything that is important for him. Believing that creation is born with introspection and with the needing to tell people about the little discoveries he makes about such short thing filled with long nights called life. Reconstructing himself. Pursuing fulfillment. Giving birth songs, thats what Senior does.
And now, to give birth the best songs ever, he has the perfect midwife with him, a devastating vital band of rednecks: The Brute Choir. And with them he managed to cross the ocean and, from Montevideo to Nashville, they gave life to twelve sincere, firm and kind creatures which in an specific order form the gratifying experience of senior & the brute choir.
The experience began back in 2007 in Valencia when Senior started writing songs that one year later would record alive and analogically at the mythical Sondor Studios (a 70-years-old sound settlement) in Montevideo · Uruguay . It went on in 2008, mixing the songs at The Funeral House in Louisville (where the first My Morning Jacket and Palace Brothers demos were made) and mastering them at Georgetown Masters in Nashville (Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt, Emmylou Harris and Kris Kristofferson favorite master facility)
The gratifying experience of senior & the brute choir contains twelve organic and non-metaphorical songs about time passing by and personal relationships. It bounces among powerpop (Symptoms), classic rock and roll (When You Dont Know What You Have), singer songwriting (The Chant Of Consolation), jazz atmospheres (The Game Of Asking), mid-tempos (The Animal) and perfect pop gems (The Sign Of Times and Regenerational Hymn).
