Sentimental City Romance are a Japanese rock band formed in Nagoya, Aichi in 1973.

The earliest line-up consists of Tokuo Nakano (lead vocals, guitar), Yutaka Hosoi (keyboards, vocals, harmonicas, other instruments), Nobutaka Tsugei (vocals, guitar, pedal steel, percussions), Fumitoshi Kato (bass, vocals) and Takeshi Tanaka (drums).

Takeshi Tanaka left the band after the first album was released. Akihiko Noguchi (drums, vocals) joined the band in 1975 and left them in 1979. But he’s come back to the band since 1993.

Fumitoshi Kato left the band after the 2nd album was released and Kiyoshi Hisada (bass, backing vocals) joined the band in 1976 until 2000.

Since Shinji Segawa (bass, backing vocals) joined the band in 2003, the band’s full members have been Tokuo Nakano, Yutaka Hosoi, Nobutaka Tsugei, Akihiko Noguchi and Shinji Segawa.

Sentimental City Romance have released 12 studio albums, 2 live albums, 10 singles and numbers of compilations.

Sentimental City Romance have the longest life among all bands in Japan (40 years in 2013). Moreover, the majority of the band members stay the same. But they are very modest towards their achievement.

When the band was formed in 1973, they were mainly influenced by the American country/southern rock music and some British music. But they soon found their original play style as well as their unique Japanese lyrics

~70’s~
In May 1973, Sentimental City Romance appeared first time in front of the crowds. It was “The 3rd Haruichiban Music Festival” in Osaka. This new teenager band impressed the audiences and other musicians with their highly skilled music performance and beautiful harmony. While the folk, blue and pop music were the main stream, their music was something very different.
On the same year they performed their live music at the “One Step Festival” where Yoko Ono also performed.
Winning almost all of the armature music contests, the following year, they were spotted by CBS Sony foreign music director, Teruo Tsutsumi.

Sentimental City Romance released their self-titled debut album and single “Uchiwamome” in August 1975 from the CBS Sony foreign music section. Haruomi Hosono (YMO, happy end) was the chief audience of this album.

The album won the CBS Sony golden LP prize, but at the same time, a controversy generated over their debut album among critics. It involved many people, while the band members were busy with tours. (So, it was not a problem for them)
They toured with famous “The Red Bus” which had their outstanding logo on it. (Nicholas Fasciano, who created the “Chicago” logo designed it)
In November 1975, their 2nd single “Komoridoki” was released from CBS Sony.

After 6 weeks continuous recording and mixing sessions in “Nemunosato”, their 2nd album “Holiday” was released in August 1976 from CBS Sony. “Nemunosato” is about 300km away from Tokyo. It was really like their holiday. They could use this countryside studio any time any hour.

In December 1977, their 3rd album, “City Magic” and the 3rd single “Natsunohino Omoide” were released from Kitty Records.
They continuously toured with “The Red Bus” anywhere in Japan. They were already well known as a very good tour band among music fans.

A film sound track “Kindaichikousukeno Bouken”, a live album “Sentimental Live” and a single “Kindaichikousukeno Bouken” were released from Colombia Records in 1979.

~80’s~
Sentimental City Romance performed a live gig to celebrate their 10th anniversary at “People’s Hall” in their hometown, Nagoya in 1982. On the same year, two albums “Smiling” and “Dancing” and two singles “Smiling Face” and “Turning Point” were released from Polydor. Jeff “Skunk” Baxter joined their album “Dancing”.

A Happy end cover album, “Happy end” (1983), a single “Going Back” (1984), an album “Relax” (1984), an album “Summer Days” (1986), a single “Koino Magic” (1986), and a single “Day By Day” (1986) were released from Polydor.

~90’s~
Sentimental City Romance celebrated their 20th anniversary at “MET hall Ikebukuro”, Tokyo in 1993. The live CD, video and laser disc were released following year. Since this live gig, Akihiko Noguchi (drums) returned to the band.
In 1998, Sentimental City Romance performed a live gig at the “Forest Park” Nagoya, “Shibuya On Air East” Tokyo and “Zao Island” Miyagi to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
