Septeto Santiaguero was founded on February 2th, 1995, from Melodias de Ayer, aged formation that since 1962 was deeply linked to the musical tradition of Santiago de Cuba and Casa de la Trova. Fernando Dewar, last director of Melodias de Ayer decided, with some of the musicians, to work with the tradition from the contemporary with the format of septet. Santiago de Cuba is the cradle of Cuban son, of traditional Cuban music, and there Septeto Santiaguero has been a success since its founding.traditional septets, between the main bands of the Cuban son and the most authentic exponents of traditional Cuban music.

In 2013 Septeto Santiaguero won the Cubadisco Award and was nominated to the Latin Grammy for their seventh recording Vamos pa la fiesta (Lets go party), in Traditional Popular Music and Tropical Traditional Music respectively. Already in 2011 the sixth recording Oye mi son santiaguero also won the Cubadisco prize and got the Latin Grammy nomination.

In 2012 came out their seventh album "Vamos pa ' la fiesta" (Lets go party) with excellent reception from specialized critics and audiences. A fulfilled dream for Septeto Santiaguero, the album has deluxe collaborations such as: Ruben Blades (together with his alter ego Medoro madera), Cheo Feliciano, Jos Alberto El Canario, Luisito Quintero, Jimmy Bosch and Edwin Coln Zayas. Since the albums release several tracks appeared in hit parades in Spain, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Peru and several cities of United States. The recording was included in several lists with the most relevant recordings of World Music and Salsa & Latin Jazz of 2012, compiled by prestigious publications: About.com (owned by The New York Times Company), Latin Beat Magazine, Le Monde (through his blog Mundo Latino), Descarga.com, ElWatusi.com, Salsa Brazil and the radio Javeriana Stereo in Colombia, together with several U.S. public radios. The first promotional single from the album, "Esa familia a m no me conviene" (I dont like this family), was in the Top 30 of the most popular songs of 2012 in the radio station Mambo-Inn from Peru.

Septeto Santiagueros repertoire is a journey through all the different ways of Cuban popular music, with emphasis on the traditional. They work from a very personal perspective songs of classic, legendary authors of the Cuban music, in perfect concordance with compositions of contemporary Cuban authors, among them most of the members of the band. Cuban son, guaracha, bolero, trova, chang, bolero-son, nengon, Cuban descarga, danzon ... constitute the basis of genres. The main emphasis is on the Cuban son and guaracha, always cheerful, a bit spicy and with that make them irresistible montunos dancing.

Since 1995 Septeto Santiaguero has toured every year, they have been in 29 countries in Europe, America and Africa. They have performed at prestigious venues like New Morning, Bataclan, Moods, Floridita, Take Five Club, Bimhuis, Galileo Galilei, Clamores Jazz, Frankfurt Opera, Teatro Lopez de Ayala, Porgy & Bess, Cinema Paradiso, and Hotel Bayerischerhof, ald many others, events such as Fiesta de los Sanfermines in Pamplona, Veranos de la Villa in Madrid, Festival de Getxo, Expo 2000 of Hannover, Festival Jazz Rally in Dusseldorf, Fordefolk Festival in Norway, Festival of Documentaries in Biarritz, Mostra di Venecia, Festival Mundo Latino in Benicassim, Semana Negra in Gijon, Expo Barcelona, Festival Tempo Latino in Vic-Fezensac, Festival Toros y Salsa in Dax, Festival la Mar de Musicas in Cartagena, Blue Balls Festival in Lucerna, Festival Barranquijazz, Carnivals in Merida, Chetumal, Cancun, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres  In Cuba they have been playing in major venues and events: (Casas de la Musica, Teatro Nacional, Teatro Heredia, Casa de la Trova, Salon Rosado de la Tropical, El son mas largo del mundo (world's longest Cuban Son) (Record Guinness,1997), all editions of 'Matamoroson' Festival; Encuentro Nacional de Septetos, Cubadisco

2014 summer tour included concerts at Cuban Summer sessions in Amsterdam Bimhuis, Womad festival (UK) and Sfinks festival (Belgium)
