Serafia (Pronounced – Sir-Raw-Fee-Yah) is an emerging R&B artist out of Austin, TX with a multi-octave voice and a unique style and sound! Locally known in her community as a "Young Donna Summer" Serafia is a highly versatile artist and incorporates various sounds in soul, R&B, blues, disco, pop, gospel, opera, and electronics into her sound. Serafia always makes sure to wrap all of her music in raw S.O.U.L.
Named one of the Top 5 best bands of 2013 by Sonic Vault Austin, this 6'1" Dominican and Russian beauty touts an impressive four and a half octave range, and has made a name for herself as a ‘brilliant’ live performer and improv artist, having shared the stage with vocal giants like, CeCe Peniston and Taylor Dayne and powerfully commanding every stage she performs on.
A lifetime student of vocal jazz, Serafia had the opportunity to tour throughout Eastern Europe and perform at a young age. And although still young, Serafia has amassed a vast amount of experience playing stages in the U.S, Europe, and Asia, with more international touring plans in the near future.
Professionally, she began as a lounge singer, performing in many of the hottest jazz bars and restaurant lounges in Austin up to 6 nights a week. After that Serafia decided to break into songwriting and performing original music, as well as working in studios with bands of various genres providing back-up vocals, vocal arranging and producing.
Her first original 6-song release entitled, Blu Soul, blends classic 60s soul and R&B aesthetics with thoughtful, introspective modern songwriting and a bit of hip-hop swagger.
Her latest 7 song release, Touching My Soul, explores a "Soul meets Dance" sound reminiscent of the late 80’s, early 90's pop – with Prince and Eurhythmics style influences. Listeners can clearly hear her influences in jazz and soul, all while remaining extremely original and creative –Serafia is definitely carving her own niche in the music world!
In the past year, Serafia earned numerous awards for her work including, Artist of the Month of Sept 2013 via the Austin Deli Magazine, Best bands of 2013 via Music Way Austin and a nomination of ‘Best Female Artist’ via the Austin Hip-Hop Awards. Her first single, Touching My Soul reached #30 on the top 50 best songs in Austin via Ovrld.com.Serafia also received radio play on Austin top stations, including Chillville on 101X and 88.7 KAZIFM.
Serafia has also been personally reached out to by producers of American Idol, The Voice, America's Got Talent and Rising Star.
In 2012 Serafia also got a national placement singing and co-writing the theme song to Empire Girls which aired a full season on The Style Network in the US and South Africa.
In her spare time she is also an expert voice over artist for various marketing campaigns and performs numerous work throughout the Austin urban and non-urban community.
