Bio

Nel Kabas is a Singer/Songwriter in the Fusion Soul genre, blending Jazz and Soul music.
Having worked with Jazz and Soul artists from the US and UK for the past ten years, she continues to collaborate with some of the finest Jazz musicians on the London circuit to create original music with a twist.
Born in Bremen, Germany of Turkish origin, she started playing trumpet and flute before joining the school choir at the age of 11. Recognizing her talent her teachers advised her to keep on singing, a path, which was later to transform her life…
It was not until finishing school and going abroad to the US however, that she was
to meet Pam Bricker, a Professional Jazz singer from suburban Washington DC, later known for working with DC. based ‘Thievery Corporation’ and featuring on their track 'Blonde Lebanese' appearing on the film soundtrack of ‘Garden State’ before her tragic death in 2005.
With Pam Bricker’s Professional Vocal coaching and starting to develop technique, she had the chance to perform with Brickers own Jazz trio at ‘Utopia’ in downtown DC, which was the starting point of her singing career.
She moved to New York City in 2000.
In New York she joined Cate and the Shades of Rhythm, led by bandleader Cate, who had previously worked with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Maxi Priest and Horace Andy among others.
Together they performed in New York and New Jersey.Continually writing original songs and ideas, she went on to Showcase her own work, performing at New York's 'Soul Cafe' and the 'Theatre of the New City' among others.
She gained additional experience by co-writing and session work, recording for Artists and Producers in the Soul and R&B genre.
In 2003 she arrived in London and soon found herself working on new exiting Projects-
Recording her original songs with Saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and his BBC Jazz Award winning group Orient House Ensemble, receiving airplay on Jazz fm and LBC 97.3 Continuing on the Jazz tip she held a Jazz residency in 2005/06 at a North London branch of Pizza Express, performing with a variety of Professional Jazz musicians on the London circuit before going onto arranging and producing her first CD of original music with featuring guests Asaf Sirkis,Simon Taylor and Stephano d’Silva and more.
