"Seven Years Lost Find Way"

Considering that Cambridge-based Seven Years Lost has been together for about 10 years, it's hard to believe the guys have just released their debut CD.

Not so far fetched considering that Rob MacDonald and Chris George are brothers, and that MacDonald and Dave Houde went to elementary school together.

"We've just always played music together," explained MacDonald during a telephone interview from Conestoga College, where he is taking accounting.

"It's something to fall back on," when it was suggested that accounting doesn't seem to fit the role of rock star.

But having just released their CD 'Above and Below,' a numbers guy may be part of the next phase.

"We're just starting to push the album and hope to have management in the next little while" said MacDonald.

Not only is Above and Below their debut CD, the guys also produced and funded the project themselves. The result is a solid, creative and gutsy release.

Combining the vocals of Chris George with solid guitar riffs and strong power rhythyms makes for an excellent debut. The album was recorded at Machine Head Studios in Toronto, and produced by Houde, who plays guitar, piano, and lap steel.

While some egos could have gotten in the way, MacDonald said that it was never in question who would produce their debut.

"He's just really good at it," said MacDonald. Not only did Houde produce the tracks, he also added intros and transitions to songs. In fact, the opening track 'An Indiscernible Message' has a mystical Pink Floyd feel to it- something that Houde created all himself.

Bio

"...Hard rock and haunting melodies throughout an entire set that mesmerized the crowd."

"You have to respect the masters - Zeppelin, Sabbath -- the groups who took the basic foundations of music and created something that inspires so many others to strive for greatness. It's all about the ability that some bands have to combine their passions with their art - that's why they've stood the test of time. I can listen to and respect any form of music, as long as it’s honest and true. In the end, being a fan of anything true is where inspiration comes from." -Dave Houde.

For Seven Years Lost, that’s exactly where inspiration comes from: the legends that have shaped their careers based on their love of music rather than a need to fit in. Vocalist Chris George's style is described as a unique combination of power and soul - the rhythmic emotion of R&B mixed with the raw angst and authority of hard rock. Guitarists Dave Houde and Rob MacDonald contribute a dominant rock essence, fueled by their devotion to the rock and roll heavyweights. Bassist Matt McLoud and drummer Jay Higgins round out the lineup, bringing extreme energy and volume to a sound that Houde, George, and MacDonald have been meticulously distilling for over ten years. Now, they've joined forces to create a uniquely Canadian musical trademark that embodies both the heaviness of rock and roll, and its melancholy resonance. They have quickly earned a reputation for not sounding like the average up-and-coming band, but a rhythmically-tight group with songwriting maturity that surpasses their experience.

7YL's diligence has landed them several prestigious shows, including opening spots for local sports teams and touring bands. After winning a string of ‘battle of the band’ competitions, 2007 has seen the band head into the studio to record their first full length album 'Above & Below.' After simmering a pile of Marshall and Mesa heads, the album’s final phase was handled in Toronto by Joao Carvahlo , whose previous mastering credits include Sam Roberts and Nickelback. The 13 song, decidedly rock album was released June 1st to a sold out hometown crowd of the band's loyal fans.
