MR. BEERY’S - Seven Years Past

The band Seven Years Past steals the show with vivacious female vocalist Lisa Larkin. Larkin and her fellow bandmates infuse old school rock with modern adult contemporary sounds. Recently, SYP debuted their first full-length album at a local CD release party that drew a crowd of over 200 fans. The group has quickly become popular around the Suncoast original music scene and are a favorite among fans of many area music events like February’s Noise Ordinance CD Release Party. You can probably expect them to take the stage when Noise returns for a second installment in March 2011. —Ed Midler - Creative Loafing (Sarasota), 11/3/2010

"7 YEARS PAST"

Brian Johnson, lead singer for the phenomenally successful rock band AC/DC, will kick off a tour of North America, South America, Europe and Asia in October to support his new album, "Black Ice."

For a Hall of Fame legend like Johnson, touring equals insanity.

Brenda, band manager to budding rock groups, Bad Sara and 7 Years Past, is the most thoughtful of spouses. She tries to simplify Brian's life during AC/DC tours.

So while Brian toiled under the hot lights of a photo shoot in New York, enduring the intolerably prying questions of Rolling Stone magazine writers, Brenda packed their Airstream and invited a few friends for a week of simple decompression. "Brian flew in from New York and came straight here," Brenda said.

From a five-star Fifth Avenue hotel, tariff, $1,100 to $16,000 per night to the quiet serene beauty of Turtle beach, $300 bucks for the week? Yep, the perfect precursor to the upcoming tour.

"I live on the water," said Johnson, clad in flip-flops and short-shorts, without a trace of makeup or a wrinkle on her tanned face, "but you can't beat this water view. It is so beautiful here." - BRADENTON HERALD TRIBUNE

Bio

Following the end of several of Southwest Florida’s most popular regional modern rock acts, Seven Years Past was born in 2008 when singer Lisa Larkin teamed up with guitarist Mark Medeiros to begin the next chapter of their musical destinies. After the departure of their former bassist, the group enlisted Bret Calltharp – who had been in bands previously with Medeiros - to become its new bass player in October 2010. With the addition of new drummer Allen Pryor, Seven Years Past continues to bring its high energy brand of modern rock to venues throughout Florida.

They have the distinction of winning “Battle of the Bands” competitions in cities ranging from Port Charlotte and St. Pete to their home base of Sarasota. The group swept the local music categories in the 2010 Creative Loafing "Best of the Suncoast" Reader's Poll and was recognized as one of the top ten bands in Tampa Bay by WSUN 97X. They also recently won the Tampa finals of the "Hard Rock International Battle of the Bands" at the Hard Rock Cafe in Tampa, one of 68 worldwide finalists. The group was also a finalist in WJRR Orlando's "Last Band Standing" contest and Jacksonville's "Rumble for Rockville" competition in 2011.

The group was selected to provide direct tour support for Silent Majority Group recording artists Tantric during their summer 2010 tour. This opportunity allowed Seven Years Past to introduce themselves to fans in New York, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Tantric violinist Marcus Ratzenboeck has since appeared with the group at select performances and is currently writing new material with the band.

Described as an “invigorating post-rock entity” by the Sarasota Herald Tribune, Seven Years Past features a blend of heartfelt, emotional lyrics and raw musical power. "It's definitely edge-of-your-seat style. That's what we're trying to go for." Larkin said. “We are mainstream rock – not too heavy, not too light – just right.” Larkin’s soulful lyrics originate from a number of sources, as she told New York’s “Tool & Die” Magazine. “Inspiration comes from other peoples’ mistakes. Mistakes that affect my friends, thus affecting me. People that I love. It’s sick. I watch them break up, make up, and I write about it all. Music, it’s almost like a photograph for me. It can tell me where I've been.”

The band left Florida for the serenity of RadioStar Studios in Northern California to record their first full length CD. Produced by multi-platinum producer Sylvia Massy (TOOL, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sevendust, Johnny Cash) and mastered by Tom Baker (30 Seconds to Mars/Velvet Revolver) of Precision Mastering, “24 Days in May” features such crowd favorites as the hard hitting “Knots”, the soaring ballad “Recent Tragedy” (featuring backup vocals by Massy) the pop infused introspection of “You Said”. Reviewer Gigi Gautier of “Tool & Die” stated, “Lisa Larkin sings with passion few possess and many desire. She strikes out fearlessly with a wave of raw emotion…there isn’t an uncomfortable musical moment on the CD.” Since releasing the CD, Seven Years Past has been featured on radio stations such as WTMY 1280 AM, "The Rock Show" on 96.5 WSLR, WSUN 97X, 105.9 the Buzz, WJRR in Orlando and 106.9 WSRQ.

The group headed to Buffalo, NY this past June to record their follow up EP at GCR Audio with producer Robby Takac, co-founder/bassist of The Goo Goo Dolls.

The band has headlined venues across Florida, from Freebird Live in Jacksonville to The State Theatre in St. Petersburg and Hard Rock Live Orlando with dates that included direct support slots for Saving Abel, Taproot, Tantric, Filter, Fuel, Vertical Horizon, Alien Ant Farm and a performance at Tampa’s 1-800 Ask Gary Amphitheatre with Journey, Night Ranger and Foreigner. The band also proudly showcased on the 2012 Florida Music Festival's Hard Rock Rising stage
