Bio

Sarah Grogan has emerged into the Ann Arbor and Detroit music scenes by the age of 27. Her dynamic vocals are expressed through an impressive range that can be playful or dramatic, polished or organic. It was clear from an early age that music was intrinsic, singing publicly at age five, learning piano at seven, as well as picking up the clarinet and studying percussion. Sarah attended a performing arts middle school where she starred in a number of theatrical productions, and received 2 scholarships to Interlochen for music and theater. She has over 12 years of professional vocal training and was a soloist at MSU in 2004. Sarah's musical inspiration has always been drawn from empowered female voices, ranging from classic to alternative genres. Her vocal style integrates these dichotomies while drawing from strong female roots. Sarah’s influences include: Billy Holiday, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, Bjork, Bonnie Rait, Ani Difranco, Maria Callas, Aretha Franklin, and Stevie Nicks. Sarah Grogan's voice is expressive and channeling, exposing a woman who has an unyielding passion for growth as well as a connection to her audience. She has had the privilege of working with accomplished musicians, when SG was formed in 2006. The band has evolved from “The SG Jazz Ensemble” into "SG", Sarah Grogan's solo project, a musical group which expresses unique interpretations of standards and covers, while developing their own material.
