Bio

Multi-Instrumentalist Chris Sgammato holds a degree in Music Studies with duel concentrations in Voice and Saxophone Performance (May '11). He is a regular performer in and around the Tampa Bay area both as a solo act and as a bandmember on various instruments. He is also a teacher, as well as a composer.

Sgammato has a wide musical background with performance experience ranging from opera/classical (USF Opera, OperaTampa, USF Collegium Singers) to jazz/fusion (USF Jazz Ensemble 1) to funk/jamBand (his current band, Funky Seeds) to experimental/electronic (Dancing with the Capulet) to reggae (Matamugu) to acoustic/singer/songwriter (Sgammato Unplugged).

In 2010, Sgammato wrote both the script and the music for his own original musical called INERTIA. He produced, directed and starred in the world premiere April 2010, and is currently recording the soundtrack (expected release iTunes: July 2011).

His live shows are very unique in that unlike a typical sampler/looper, Sgammato plays every note of every single instrument (or object that makes noise) in front of his audience; nothing is pre-recorded, leaving no shadow of a doubt as to where the sound is all coming from. Since most of his songs revolve around a couple of licks (the rest being composed entirely on the spot), none of his songs will ever sound the same twice. He might beatbox for a beat / guitar for harmony / sax for melody one night, then the next night use beer bottles and bass for the beat / sax layers for harmony / synthesizer for melody the next night.

Improvisation is a key element of Sgammato's live shows, and he is more than willing to invite his audience to become a part of the spontaneous compositional process. He will typically ask the audience what instruments they'd like him to play, in what key, what tempo, what style, and then perform it immediately.
