"This duo reminds one of the long gone days of the sixties, with their unending belief in love, connection and harmony."

"Absorbing an old philosophy of love they infuse it with the spunk and zaniness of their personalities."

"The music they create blends together the almost forgotten past with the technically fine tuned sound of today."

"Music with the the ability to be a unifying force in this world shattered with religion, caste, race, culture and even language (barriers)!"

"Overall, in many ways, Shaa'ir + func are the best thing to happen to Indian rock music in a while. And that's because they aren't Indian, nor are they rock. Their vibe is cosmopolitan and truly 'world' without the limitations of generic considerations cramping their style." - SPLIT MAGAZINE & RADIO

They overwhelm you with their rich, frothy music; there's a flushed up energy exploding through every note. There's an underlying sensual pleasure that the electronic explorations bring you, and though you might be tempted to compare them to other international electronic acts, the chemistry that you can dig into while listening to Shaa'ir + Func is unique. –The Record - THE RECORD MAGAZINE

"RAVE magazine"

"It's a very creative record…we're tipping that it's gonna be big!" - RAVE India re. New Day: The Love Album's 4 out of 5 stars - RAVE magazine

"Shaa'ir and func's, Monica, is a magical being – both on and off stage. She's just this genuinely nice unaffected girl with beautiful thoughts and a great infectious vibe which radiates through each of her performances." - The Rock Street Journal

"[Shaa'ir] is killing the cynics with hope, and she doesn't even know it." – The Rock Street Journal

"The undergrounds most promising collaboration…" – The Rock Street Journal aka RSJ - THE ROCK STREET JOURNAL

Together they produce and compose music.
They have released an album entitled ‘NEW DAY – The Love Album’ out on Counterculture Records (MUMBAI, India), in MAY 2007

Currently they are in India putting final touches on their second album and touring.
They have spent most of 2007 performing and recording all over India, NYC and London.

SHAAIR means poet, in Urdu.
FUNC comes from the word function, and also rhymes with funk.:-)

SHAA’IR is from NYC and comes from a performance art background, having danced and performed on and off Broadway. She is also a graduate of NYU's prestigious music performance program.

FUNC is an art school graduate from Mumbai, India and has been part rock band Pentagram for 14 yrs.
He is also a producer who has worked and collaborated with several bands, and also composes for tv and films.

They met in India in 2005.
Decided to write music together.
And are on a mission to bridge and unite the world of music and art with their sound.

SHAA’IR grew up in the U.S.A in Maryland, listening to Indian classical, ghazals and bollywood music.
FUNC grew up in Mumbai listening to funk, rock, disco and reggae from the west.

It is this wonderful evolution that makes their sound what it is and drives them to share an idea that it is ‘the world is not always what it seems like on TV’
