"AFRIKO-THEQUE ‘The Bootleg’ [EP]"

AFRIKO-THEQUE boasts a collection of tracks that flip and rework classic & traditional samples from across the continent within a modern electronic (generally house-leaning) framework. For The Bootleg EP, selectors Shabaaz Foster (NYC), Jamnights (Chile) and The Super Ninja Pizza DJs (NYC) cycle through “hand-selected hidden treasures from artists all the way from Nigeria to Mali to Zaire.” Stream clips below and download AFRIKO-THEQUE The Bootleg EP for free. - OkayAfrica.com

"AFRIKO-THEQUE: The Bootleg EP"

Haven’t had a chance to check this out yet but I luv the concept and idea.

I hope it’s good and can’t wait to hear it.

Let us know what you think of it by leaving a comment.

Here’s what the producer says:

“AFRIKO-THEQUE: The Bootleg EP” is the first of it’s kind to infuse traditional African-culture and classic samples with that of the sound of modern day Electro/ Electronic Dance & House Music. We’ve taken the best of a few carefully hand-selected hidden treasures from artists all the way from Nigeria to Mali to Zaire and more and remixed them for a unique remake that would work on today’s dance floor. Featuring remixes by Shabaaz Foster (New York), JamNights (Chile), and The Super Ninja Pizza DJs (New York). - GenerationBass.com

"Afriko-theque, The Bootleg EP: African classics with an electro-house-dance twist"

DJ/ Remix Artist/ Producer Shabaaz Foster (NYC) sent this to us a couple of months ago and we, unforgivably, managed to let it slip through the net without having listened to it. Glad we finally did, because this is the sort of music you wanna share the moment you click "play" and those first fuzzy guitar notes of the intro hit your ears.

Afriko-theque: The Bootleg EP contains 5 tracks with classic African sounds from different parts of the continent, but given a modern electro-house-dance twist by Shabaaz, JamNights (Chile) and The Super Ninja Pizza DJs (New York). And it's free (DOWNLOAD).

Visit Shabaaz at Twitter and some him some love for a job well done.

If you're anything like us, having listened to the above you'll probably be curious to hear the originals as well. Never let it be said that we don't put in the work for you guys.

Thanks to Shabaaz Foster for providing the catalyst for this brief journey into the past, and for the fab EP. - ThisIsAfrica.Me

Bio

NYC-based house producer and remix junkie, Shabaaz Foster, aka the “Keeper of the Funk”, has disregarded all boundaries of what house music is really capable of.  The notoriously known New York native punk whose formidable reputation of doing the unconventional and always trying new approaches to creating electronic music is what sets him apart from the rest.

As an ol’ skool graffiti writer, b-boy and overall hip-hop culturist, Shabaaz Foster started his love for customized music during his adolescent years, where he went under the alias “MersyOne” and completed his first series of mixtapes during high school.  At the age of 20 he  released his first 12″ tech-house record entitled “Shogun” and since then he has been pushing out his own bootlegs and original recordings under various independent record labels such as NuFunk Defile Records and, at the present time, Boutiq Muzik.  His remixes in particular had
proven to be in high demand despite the bootleg market; landing on numerous underground compilations that were sold alongside industry heroes such as Armand Van Helden, Dj Premiere, Roni Size and more.  But no doubt, his work has gained him the attention that has landed him gigs in select areas of North America – including the New England area (New York, Connecticut), Philadelphia, Colorado, Canada and Mexico.
