Bio

RICHARD SHADE
(917) 667-8554
(718) 652-3565

Mr. Richard Shade, an accomplished keyboardist and international vocalist, has been performing for 47 years. He is currently a member of the Roy Ayers Band and has played with him for the past 12 years.

“Sweet Richard,” as he is so affectionately called, has toured here and abroad with the U.S.O., and the D.O.D. serenading the troops with that soulful sound only he can deliver. Over the years he has played with such greats as the “Platters”, “Drifters”, “Dixie Cups”, “Impressions”, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry and Jack McDuff to name a few. As an executive and artist with the now defunct record company Delite Records, Richard was able to show a more creative side as a producer and publisher. Being multitalented “Sweet Richard”, who also plays keyboards, is an established and gifted composer and arranger.

He has accompanied renowned artists such as the “Spinners”, Jeffery Osborne, Smokey Robinson, Ernest Ranglin, Al Jarreau, Angie Stone, Monty Alexander, Courtney Pine, Erykah Badu, “Stew”, and Eric Benet.

Whether he performs a solo or lends his voice to the background the audience is immediately caught up in his smooth, soulful sound. “Sweet Richard” has recorded with such greats as the incomparable Roy Ayers, “Kool and The Gang” and George Benson. He has also had the pleasure of performing at recording sessions at Masters at Work.
