Shaded

Shaded is 5 guys from Liverpool, N.Y., that have been together almost a decade. We would describe our music as more Pearl Jamish, or even Seven Mary three. Our influences range from the great music of the 60's, right on through to some of today's rock. What we write is honest, things we've lived. I personally have always been drawn to music I can relate to, "hey that happend to me." We also try to structure the songs in a way that even if you can't relate to the lyrics, there's a killer beat or guitar solo that you can dig. Even though the lyrics are written about certain things, they can be interpreted other ways. A couple of years ago I wrote a song about my kids, for two years Mike (the rhythm guitarist) thought it was about chicks. Mike Farrell, the rhythm guitarist, recently left the band after seven years. He brought wisdom and experience to the band that words couldn't explain. He grew up listening to music that meant something. Next is Charlie Kastler, bass player. After 3 years with the band and a long break, he's back and better than ever. The same is true for Matt Bunker on Drums, Matt was with the band from the beginning, took a break, but never missed a beat. Next is Casey Terwilliger who plays lead guitar and vocals. My favorite thing about Casey, he turns ideas into songs. A couple of us will be working on a two line piece of nothing and by the end of the night Casey turns it into something. Our newest member is Pat D Addario on lead guitar. Pat has a Blues background, so you can imagine, his solos are "tasty". I'm Dan Chappell, I write and sing what I can, and the band does the rest.

We recently had our latest effort, "Buzzed", reviewed in the Post-Standard, May 6, 2010, by Mark Bialczak, these are his words: "The Liverpool indie rock band Shaded’s third recording bursts forth with five original songs that carry a fast-paced edge but also carry catchy hooks and melodies. Lead singer Dan Chappell, guitarist-vocalist Casey Terwilliger, lead guitarist Pat D Addario, drummer Matt Bunker and bassist Charlie Kastler sound radio-ready".

Shaded has many influences when it comes to our music. Great bands from the 60's right on through to some of today's music, like The Beatles, The Guess Who, The Who, The Hollies, Pink Floyd, to Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Seven Mary Three and The Refreshments, to name a few. All these artists bring something to the table that strike a chord in each of us as fans and creatively in our music.

Shaded has played with some National Recording Artists like: The Fray and Saving Jane. The band has also been selected to perform at Penn State's Movin' On Music Festival for two years running (2010, 2011)
