Shady Characters

Shady Characters

Shady Characters is a Vancouver Island -Victoria-based 5 piece band that likes to play original and country, bluegrass and old time compositions. Folks tell us our music makes them feel good! The harmonies are smooth on the ear and the driving rhythm is sure to make you tap your feet.

Shady Characters has played open stages and feature sets around Victoria for the past two years at many folk clubs and coffee houses including the Victoria Bluegrass Association and the Victoria Folk Club. People have told us they like our harmonies that are uniquely different from traditional bluegrass arrangements. They like our relaxed manner on stage and the fact that we are from the Island. Many of our songs are band origionals. Our music has a distinctive Canadian slant. Some of our tunes reflect on the hard times that Canadian farmers have gone through over the years.
Band influences include James Whittall of Shearwater, Jerry Garcia, Norman Blake, Steve Earle, the Bills, The Cloverpoint Drifters and Outlaw Social.

We are putting the final touches to our first cd "Back in the Day" which features many original tunes by the band. The cd will be ready for the Sooke River Bluegrass Festival 2008 where we are featured as the new band. We are excited!
