Bio

SHAKEY RANKS.

Born Mark Alleyne in the year 1969-11-05, Shakey Ranks or Mr. Ranks as he is more known today, grew up as a young boy with much love for horses. “ Yes he wanted to be a jockey”, but as he put it, this was a rich man’s sport, so coming from a poor family background, he turned his attention to music, becoming also a jockey, a disc jockey that is. Soon after he became a household name throughout his homeland Barbados , owning and running one of his country’s most popular reggae sound systems, Vibes International Sound System, for over ten years. But not only could he spin tunes, he could also sing tunes. Not taking it seriously, until one day when a friend told him of a studio that was in the process of doing a various artists album. That studio was Lethal studio, owned by Mr. Deepu who at the time of Shakey’s visit in 1996, had almost finished getting together all the artists he needed for his album and decided to give him a part in a song he was in the process of recording at the time, if the singer would allow it. That singer, Njeri, did give his consent and together they did the track “ Cease Fire”, which became the most popular song on the album. Then came RHP Productions with Jingle Jam Studio, who produced the song “They’ll Never Know”, also very popular in Barbados. Soon after it was Monster Piece Studio, who did the big monster track “Chant & Talk”. At that time , Shakey could be seen on almost every Major Reggae show in Barbados and other parts of the world alongside some of the best from Jamaica. After much pressure from fans, he has now teamed up with the Dbox Studios and M2 Productions inc with the Black Amali band to record his first solo album entitled “ Mr. Progressive”, some very interesting tracks with Shakey’s smooth, crystal clear voice over a series of cross over music such as Roots Rock Reggae, R&B and Jazz. So be sure to check out your music store and make sure this album is part of your music collection because as Shakey would put it, it is sure to “Bust de place like a storm”.
Peace
