Bio

Combining guitar improvisation with studio produced beats and ambient soundscapes, Shakiban unites the stylings of Carlos Santana, the Grateful Dead, and Pink Floyd with modern electronic influences like Kruder & Dorfmeister, Groove Armada, and Bass Nectar. After completely falling in love with the guitar work of Jerry Garcia, Carlos Santana, and Trey Anastasio in the early 90's, David Shakiban came from New York to the San Francisco Bay Area in pursuit of his passion for improvisational jam music (and more sun!). He gradually came to learn more about modern electronic music on the dance floors of many a club and late night gathering. Eventually, David merged these 2 influences with friend and music producer Tim Aldridge in a project called JackRabbit. David has performed all over the Bay Area with quality professional musicians in some of the area's most well known music venues, and he is now producing new electronic/guitar improvisational tracks on his latest solo album. In 2004, David released his debut album "Za", under the band name of Shakiban. This first album explored David's interests in songwriting, and showed David's skills as writer, singer, and guitarist. It was at this time that he met bassist John Cha. David is now in the studio with John and new found drummer/percussionist Aharon Wheels Bolsta, preparing the release of Shakiban's 2nd album, exploring this new electronic/improv direction.
