Bio
Sham Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up in a small suburban neighborhood in Laurel, Maryland. He was not from a musical family and had no access to any instruments at all. After being signed up for local piano lessons, Sham's parents bought him a toy Casio keyboard which was later upgraded to a Baldwin upright piano. He started out with classical training but then joined his church praise team which introduced to him to improvisation. Because Sham was on the course of being a graphic designs major in high school, piano was a side project.
He attended the Berklee School of Music's five week summer program where he encountered artists like The Beatles, Herbie Hancock, and Miles Davis for the first time. These were the sounds that he was long searching for and immediately wanted to pursue music as more than just an interest. After being accepted to the prestigious Berklee College of Music, he started to write songs here and there.
Sham is now a songwriter/keyboardist who is in his fifth semester of college, majoring in Contemporary Writing & Production. He has studied with Matt Jenson, David Limina, Bruce Katz, Dennis Montgomery III, and Jetro da Silva. Ultimately, this experience is shaping and molding Sham's future as a producer/performer and there are no limits to his growth as a musician and a human being.
