Shamond Scales

Shamond Scales

SHAMOND SCALES is already dubbed as the next “now generation” artist by some of the best in the industry.

Make no mistake. Acclaimed contemporary gospel singer/songwriter SHAMOND SCALES is poised and ready to become the next “now generation” artist of our time.

Born in 1989 in Clarksville, TN, Shamond grew up in a musical family and home where classic gospel music was always on the turntable. “My favorite album of all time is Keith Pringle “Perfect Peace”, says Shamond. “Thomas Whitfield had a tremendous influence on my life. Pastor Walter Hawkins, man, I can’t tell you how many times we listened to Love Alive I. I love the Winans— and of course all of the artists that came later, like Kirk Franklin, Kim Burrell and Tye Tribett. The older recordings are still special to me. Even though they were made years ago–the creativity and anointing is still there. It’s music that stands the test of time. That’s what I pray my music does.”

Growing up and active in church under the tutelage of his aunt Sharroniese Horton, a successful gospel artist and classical trained pianist, Shamond was able to develop his musical prowess, learning to play both keyboards and drums. Sensing that he had a call on his life to preach, Shamond became a licensed minister in 2001, and currently serves on the ministerial staff as Praise Leader at his home church, Christ the Healer Church.

Shamond had developed his own style quite impressively by the time he met Bishop Larry Trotter of Utopia Music Group. “I heard this young man singing at the Full Gospel Baptist Convention and I was completely blown away,” says Bishop Trotter. Not only could he sing—he was full of the Word and able to articulate it in a way that was beyond his years. I knew right then we had to sign this wonderful ministry gift and expose him to the world.”

Shamond officially leaps into the gospel music arena with his debut project “Just Another Day” (Available Spring 2008) distributed by Taseis on the Utopia Music Group label. Drawing from a musical canvas of classic gospel music influences, Shamond showcases undeniable talent as a vocalist and obvious skill as both singer and songwriter. With each track Shamond dips his listeners into a pool reminiscent of authentic “old skool” traditional and contemporary gospel—adding his own unique flavoring. The project is filled to the brim and bursting at the seams with musical flavoring that runs the gospel gamut –contemporary, urban, traditional –and even some good old quartet for good measure. While often drawing comparisons to Daryl Coley, Shamond stands out with a definitive style of his own.

Demonstrating incredibly strong vocals and a poised presence that belie his age, Shamond has already been recognized by key pastors and ministries across the country –and by some of gospel music industry’s best including Kim Burrell and Donald Lawrence. Along with positive industry reviews from his participation as featured lead vocalist on several projects, and key performances across the country, Shamond continues to add to his ever-increasing base of appreciative fans. His already impressive array of credits include: musical guest on Trinity Broadcast Network, featured artist at the Grand Old Opry, featured artist in Hanua, Germany, special guest for the Full Gospel Baptist Convention, featured lead vocalist for Bishop Joseph Walker III presents the Judah Generation, (Light Records) and Bishop Larry Trotter & Sweet Holy Spirit, Already Lookin’ Bettah, (Tyscot/Utopia).

Shamond has a caring heart and is concerned about others. Not only is he a member of Kadesh Ministries, a community service organization that supports both his local and surrounding community, but also he is launching his own youth initiative in Spring 2008. A warm hearted, fun-loving teenager, Shamond is a hard-working student who understands the value and importance of education. Shamond’s personal mission of uplifting and encouraging youth and young adults with his music and message is close to his heart. In conjunction with the promotion for his new release, the “Next Now Generation” Tour is scheduled to impact numerous churches, youth groups, community and civic organizations across the country. “ I look at the world condition. I see so many youth going astray. Faith in God is first and foremost. Education is a vital key. Strong, active youth and young adult ministries is the key. I want to partner with senior pastors, youth pastors and ministries and share my ministry. I want them to know that God is concerned about everything that concerns them –and that His Will is for them to be winners.”

“My mission for my life is to use every gift and opportunity I have to inspire others to reach and grab hold to the life that God has for them.”
