"Shane MauX Goes Solo With the New EP, “Come Alive”"

Shane MauX, formerly of local dubstep/rap duo Duk Duk Goose!, and Ann Arbor–based rap/rock/funk ensemble Belikos, partners with Justified Noise on his first solo EP, Come Alive (mix/mastered by Dr. Nu of Lilly Wolf). On the new EP, Shane again experiments with rap fusion, succeeding in producing a new sound that fits comfortably within the genre dubbed “Alternative Hip-Hop”.

Come Alive is a departure from Shane’s previous work, and lends new color to the landscape of Brooklyn underground rap. On the new EP, synthetic instrumentals provide a backdrop for the expression of darker themes and more introspective lyrics. The refined, sometimes ethereal sound palette skillfully channels Shane’s range of vocal capabilities and accentuates the shifting timbre of his voice. Each track tells a story of its own, and yet weaves seamlessly into the next.

The campaign to promote Come Alive covers a lot of virtual territory, from postings on notable indie music sites, to the viral dissemination of a series of music videos — the first of which is the one for the single “Lush”.

In this debut music video, director Kevin McCormack artfully translates into real life the dominant visual themes found on Jannike Viveka’s tumlbr page, deadlyart.tumblr.com. The video is a sequence of stirring, carefully orchestrated scenes, in which dramatically painted, often strangely adorned performers mouth the lyrics to the song and respond through movement to the beat. Alternatingly aggressive and haunting, “Lush” drives the rhythm of the editing and inspires a feeling as if suspended in mid-air, as you hang on each note, afraid to let go.

Still, the video for “Lush” doesn’t compare to the rush of a live performance, which is more like an interactive experience. Always a charismatic and passionate performer, Shane naturally engages his audience in a kind of physical dialogue that makes everyone a part of the show. It’s a sound that makes you want to pay attention, but still get up and dance.

"[Video] “Lush” – Shane MauX"

Shane Maux just put out a stunning new visual for “Lush,” the first track from his newest project, Come Alive EP. Not many upcoming artists release such high quality and artistic music videos, so props to Shane. This really shows me that he puts time and effort into his music which is something I respect. I really look forward to seeing what’s next for this unique, Brooklyn emcee. - UpcomingHipHop.net

"VIDEO: SHANE MAUX – LUSH (INTRO)"

Shane MauX delivers a dope new visual for his “Lush” (Intro) record. This is featured on his “Come Alive EP” out now. Seriously though, this video is crazy. Check it out. - sheBloggin

"NEW VIDEO | SHANE MAUX “LUSH” + STREAM NEW EP ‘COME ALIVE’"

Art inspired this new video entitled “Lush” which features colorful painted bodies and wigs, simple but skilled editing and a pleaseant introduction to Shane MauX. He’s an alternative hip hop rapper from Ann Arbor, MI but as the lyrics explain:

"Ace-Deuce done raised me, this the shit that made me, ATL where my swag from, Detroit my ole lady, NYC shaped me, NYC made me, CRAZY, NY gave me them rabies"

I’m sure he doesn’t have rabies but this Justified Noise produced track/video is crazy. Shane MauX has a new EP Come Alive that just dropped today. Check that out below. - Music Madame

"PREMIERE: SHANE MAUX – “LUSH”"

This one’s different, very diverse and most definitely worth a listen. Look out for the visual coming next month. - shebloggin

"Shane MauX - "Lush""

Though his heart is his hometown of Ann Arbor, MI, rapper/singer Shane MauX (Belikos, Duk Duk Goose!) has called Brooklyn his home for the better part of a decade.
Shane’s first solo release, the “Come Alive” EP is a departure from his previous projects.
As the frontman of former rock band, Belikos, he played gigs including the Virgin Mobile Free Fest, CMJ, Webster Hall, Brooklyn Night Bazaar, Piano’s, The Knitting Factory, Santos Party House, The Bitter End, and the Utica Music Festival. He shared bills with legendary artists including Ludacris, Mos Def, Bad Brains, Chromeo, M.I.A., Pavement, LCD Soundsystem, Joan Jett, and Fishbone.
As one half of rap duo “Duk Duk Goose!,” he played dozens of shows in the NYC Hip Hop scene and released two mix tapes and several videos.
Shane’s new EP, “Come Alive” (produced by Justified Noise and mixed/mastered by Dr. Alex Neuhausen of Lilly Wolf) spans issues of love, hatred, violence, rooftops in the summer, women you love to hate, women you hate to love, revolution, and parody (or self-aware embrace) of misogyny and materialism. A versatile vocalist, Shane’s flow ranges from flirty (Come Alive) to aggressive (jan) to comically twisted (Monsters), with the occasional surprise of fluid singing. His combination of wordplay, sincerity, and a variety of vocal styles prompts comparisons to Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, and Andre 3000, but his unique background and story set him apart. Shane plans to promote the new EP by releasing a series of music videos, starting with the single “Lush.” - UndergroundHipHopBlog.com

From Randy:

This is really dope. I’ve been talking all day about having your own sound and style and Shane Maux has that.

This is one of the best songs I’ve heard all day. - SheBloggin
