"NEXT 2 BLOW -Shane Anderson - Special R&B Delivery"

With a voice all his own, Shane Anderson is creating a mark on a scene full of R&B new comers. Recently releasing his debut album, Dangerous, Shane Anderson is letting the world know he is here. Working with some amazing producers who have worked with the likes of R&B superstars such as Ne-Yo, Mario and J-Lo to help get his sound across, Shane seems to have left nothing to chance in his forward motion to be heard. His choice of songs on his debut album provides the listener with a taste of everything from a new school sound to an old school vibe. Breaking out into the R&B world seems to be just as hard as it is to break into the hip hop game but with passion and talent anything can be achieved. Yo! Raps caught up with this new face of R&B to talk about his work, his struggles, his goals and much more.

Thank you for taking time out for this interview, I want to start by asking you, how did you first get started in music? At what age did you realize you could sing?

I first started getting into music when I was about 5-6 years old, my parents bought me a Casio keyboard and I would play everything that was coming off the radio by ear and it wasn't until I was about 13 years old that I realized I could sing as well.

I have to ask, what is your nationality/nationalities?

I'm German, Swedish, and a little Cherokee Indian mixed in.

In the world of R&B is it hard to break out above other artists who can sing? Does talent in the R&B genre supersede hype that is found more in other genres?

I think a lot of the times in other genres of music, if there's a catchy beat and a catchy hook, people will pick up on that and with home recording becoming easier and easier... I think we are going to be seeing a lot more of the hype over substance... as far as R&B is concerned. I think you have to have your delivery tight as well as making music for people to feel and you've got to have a good voice to keep rising to the top, even if you are coming out with songs that are radio ready songs you still need to be on point with your vocals. I also feel that the internet makes it a lot easier for new artist to break out now then back in the day. That's why I really respect the old school R&B artists because they didn't have all the marketing advantages that we have now and they were still able to blow up.

You have a song called 3am Cruise, and I've got to tell you, I got a Jon B. feel when listening to the track, what veteran or veterans of R&B influenced you if any?

Well I'm influenced by all the artists of the old school music scene primarily the Motown artists. But as far as people now in the industry I would have to say Tank, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Usher, Robin Thicke, Joe, Carl Thomas, Ryan Leslie, Justin Timberlake, Tyrese, Dwele, Musiq Soulchild, D'Angelo, Jon-B, Javier, Avant, Brian McKnight, 112, Jagged Edge, Glenn Lewis, Dru Hill. I could keep going but it would take the whole page up. I am influenced by people that create good music.

I have seen many people in the industry say the use of auto tune is way over done, what are your thoughts on Auto Tune?

Auto Tune is like putting seasoning on a steak, as long as you don't put too much and use it for what it's intended purpose is for then you should be alright, but overdo it and that steak is going to taste funky. Rappers should not use Auto Tune. I think it takes away from what rap is all about and that's the lyrical delivery. I don't want to hear if the rapper sounds like a singing robot. I want to hear the substance behind the lyrics.

You recently released your album Dangerous, how have people been reacting to it thus far?

Here is the way I look at it. If people buy my album and can relate or enjoy the songs... that's what measures success to me. The overall reaction to my album has been very good and I am very happy with the feedback that's coming my way. I love my fans and my fan base grows daily and I am thankful for that. It's a great album and I'm not saying that because it's my own. This has been a long journey and I am proud of the results that came from the hard work and dedication from everybody contributing to this album.

Your best friend Marcel Ingram was murdered, has the loss of your friend affected your music? If so how?

This has been the hardest thing to cope with in my life, not a day goes by that I don't think about him. But at the same time he wanted to do the music thing so badly as well so I look at it like I got my best friend right by me at all times helping me, encouraging me and it's like I've got him right beside me in the recording process. It has definitely made me appreciate life and made me also realize that I needed to put an album out not just for me but for him as well.

Can you use 4 adjectives that best describe your album and why.

Real, aphrodisiac, deception, rendezvous. These 4 words best sum up my album. Real, because all these songs can relate to someone. Aphrodisiac, this album has a lot of this...from the song 3am to Dangerous, it's that constant lusting over a woman that all men have experienced at some point. Deception from a woman cheating, to you doing the same thing and thinking it's okay because she's doing it. Rendezvous, to prevent your heart from getting in the way of lust.

On your album the track Human Nature... the hook/chorus obviously is partial to the chorus of the song by Michael Jackson Human Nature. What was the reasoning behind that?

I have always been a fan of Michael Jackson as an entertainer I mean who isn't, but the song was given to me by the producer and he titled it Humans Nature and I ran with the title and started writing to the song and the chorus just fit with the song perfectly so I flipped the words a little bit and Human Nature was born.

Was your album put out independently or are you signed to a label?

I put this album out independently. The problem with major labels is that sometimes your creative control gets taken from you. I was able to write and engineer this entire album without having any limitations put on me and I wanted to keep the creative control on my side of the playing field.

Who are some of the producers you worked with on your album?

The album's tracks were graced by the production skills of Team Green, Oak, Xcluzive, Big "Al" Frasier, So For Real, Feenx Beatz and Drew. During the production phase of this CD, I worked with industry heavyweights who have produced and recorded with music acts such as Ne-Yo , Chris Brown, Lloyd, Jennifer Lopez, Sterling Simms, Mario, Shawty Redd and many more.

What has been the biggest struggle so far that you have encountered in the industry as an up and coming artist?

I think the biggest struggle is getting commercial airplay on a corporate radio station. Any artist could tell you that though. It's tough. I have heard a lot of independent artists that can go toe to toe with the majors, but can't get one spin on commercial radio. On the positive side though I think as internet music sites begin to grow, commercial radio will have to start taking notice that peoples love for music is built on creativity and not just what's playing on the Billboard's Top 40.

What is in store for you in 2009? Shows, appearances, tours and features with other artists...

I've got a few things in the line up, but got to be on the hush. You've got to check my blog on www.mrandersonmusic.com to stay updated on what's going on with me. But, I will give one thing away, I have been in the studio working with an artist on his album making the beats and singing on it and it's due to be out before the summer.

What is your ultimate goal for your music?

To become an artist with longevity and keep the creative juices flowing and make good music that my fans will love.

What do industry veterans say about you?

Industry veterans describe me as a sincerely gifted song-writer with a singing voice thick with soul and passion. They say my songs are truly timeless, classics of lyrics and melodies that sound as relevant today as they will be twenty years from now.

Where can our readers find out more about you and your music?

If you want to find out about me you could go to my website at www.mrandersonmusic.com or you can visit my MySpace page at www.myspace.com/mrandersonmusicmyspace. You can also buy the album directly from me on my website... I autograph every single CD that leaves the recording studio for people that buy from my website.

Bio

"Shane Anderson is soul. He is the truth. Shane is a man that lives through music." It doesn't get any more real than that. Shane Anderson inspires all who are in the room with his unique style of songwriting, production and singing that can only be described as "Refreshing".

SHANE WAS BORN TO DO MUSIC!!!

Ever since, he has been developing his own take on Soul, R&B and the pop sounds generated by artists like Neyo, Chris Brown, Usher, Robin Thicke, Joe, Carl Thomas, Ryan Leslie, Justin Timberlake, Tank, Tyrese, Dwele, Musiq Soulchild, D'Angelo to name a few. What he has come up with is a signature sound. Not quite left of center, but not straight up pop. It is, according to most who hear it, deep on many levels, yet immediate as anything they would play on the radio.

THE GRASS AIN'T ALWAYS GREENER !!!

Tragedy took his closest friend of 15 years- "My friend Marcel Ingram was murdered during Christmas " Musically we shared dreams and aspirations together. And this hit way too close to home. You grow up seeing it on TV but never expect it to show up on your doorstep." Shane felt stuck as his music just seemed to hit a roadblock.

After much thought and reinvention, Shane realized that now he had to do this not only for him but also for his best friend Marcel.

Shane proves he plans to be a permanent fixture within the music industry for a very long time. Whether you like R&B, Club, Hip Hop, Pop, Dance or Soul this amazing artist will be sure to feed your appetite.
