"Shanell Sharpe drops New Mixtape, "Shanell's Diaries""

The tape really displays Shanell’s versatility. From the cover art down to the music and poems, it starts you on a journey. Her cover art is inspired by the film “Poetic Justice.” Her music and poetry on the tape is inspired by her daily life. It highlights heartbreak, insecurities, love, war, light…all through lyricism, harmony, and spoken word.
“I really don’t like how Artists are told to pick a lane and stay in it. You can do whatever you want. What I create is literally based on what mood I’m in, whatever I’m feeling at the time. Maybe I want to try to sing, maybe I feel like I want to break something, maybe I’m in love.”
Ultimately, this project is 100% Shanell, raw and unapologetic. The listener can appreciate her authenticity. Shanell’s Diaries represents strength. It characterizes the ability to go through something and come out of it better than before.
The first few tracks exemplify this resiliency in different ways.
“Different Breed” is a track that goes against the grain. It has an old school sound with fresh and vibrant lyrics. Shanell speaks on blocking any negativity and pushing forward regardless with lyrics like “How you mad now I’m just gettin’ poppin/ Look through fake smiles I could see they watchin…my only timing God’s I ain’t neva stoppin.”
The next tracks, Forever and Rip Current, display this same kind of resiliency but within a romantic relationship. The Harlem Artist usually keeps her love life private but decides to open up about it more on this tape. She talks about having the strength to leave a toxic relationship even though for a long time she couldn’t. She uses lyrics like “Told you this forever/I guess that was naive of me” and “If you stay with me you might break/ If we get too deep I might drown.” Shanell took us deep and gave us a breath of fresh air!
The following tracks are all a testament of getting through any and everything. The songs and poems motivate the listener. They remind you of who you are. It’s truly an experience you should participate in yourself. Shanell’s Diaries is the definition of art.

"Shanell Sharpe Gives Us A Glimpse Into "Shanell's Diaries""

Connecticut-based artist/poet/activist Shanell Sharpe is looking to feed your mind, body, and soul with that good content. Having shown her range with various releases over the years, her goal is to change lives, and help her growing fanbase to be healthier, wiser, and more conscious. Already standing out from the current lineup of artists, she gets the ball rolling even more with the release of her debut project, “Shanell’s Diaries“.

Featuring 9 tracks, “Shanell’s Diaries” finds Shanell Sharpe currently being at her most creative. With a cover art inspired by Janet Jackson’s character in the classic “Poetic Justice” film, Shanell covers a variety of topics from love, to heartbreak, to insecurities, to some of her many observations.

The project is fueled by the single “Different Breed“, which has been crossing over the various parts of the world, and finds her tapping into old school elements, but giving listeners a breath of fresh air. She is in her own world, and she comes out in full force with great lyricism, beautiful harmonies, and spoken word that hits hard. With her words being supported by top production, “Shanell’s Diaries” is a glimpse into some parts of her world that you experience over and over.

In addition to “Shanell’s Diaries“, Shanell Sharpe is busy promoting a Vegan lifestyle, and a Social-Emotional Learning App called “Sharpe Mindset“. She looks forward to making more moves this year, and connecting with even more people along the way. - @SwadeDaVillain

"Atwood Magazine Sits Down With Shanell Sharpe (Women's History Month Special)"

WHAT KIND OF SPACE DO YOU WANT TO CARVE OUT FOR YOURSELF AS A WOMAN IN THIS INDUSTRY?
An untouchable one. Powerful one. Inspiring one. One that opens doors for all to come. There’s been a glass ceiling for a lot of women for a long time. I believe I’m a part of the movement that is breaking through that.

MISOGYNY CAN BE SO INSIDIOUS IN THE MUSIC WORLD. WHAT ARE SOME WAYS YOU'VE BEEN ABLE TO COMBAT IT AND WHAT KIND OF ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER TO WOMEN WHO ARE JUST COMING INTO THE INDUSTRY?
I’ve always remained myself no matter who I’m around. I stay confident even in the midst of uncertainty. I don’t compromise my standards. Advice I have for women just coming in is….be unapologetically yourself. Never stop…regardless of the circumstances. Trust the process. The journey is the destination.

HOW WOULD YOU CHALLENGE THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IN ORDER TO INCREASE MEANINGFUL REPRESENTATION AND PROVIDE BETTER SUPPORT FOR WOMEN?
Stop only selling sex.

LASTLY, WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON CURRENTLY? ANYTHING COMING DOWN THE PIPELINE YOU’RE EXCITED TO SHARE WITH FANS?
Most definitely. I just recently released my first tape entitled Shanell’s Diaries. It’s on all platforms now and I’m extremely proud of it. It’s the most vulnerable I’ve ever gotten in my career thus far. I’ve also developed an App called Sharpe-Mindset that teaches Social-Emotional Learning to secondary school students through music, poetry, and other forms of creative expression. - Adrian Vargas
